    2010 Season

If you could hedge the 2010 season with a guaranteed exactly 6 wins today, would you take it?

    Re: 2010 Season

yes, because it would be improvement. people 20 years from now would look back and say 7-6 in 2009, 7-6 in 2010? they stayed the same (assuming we win a bowl game), but the truth in the schedule would be there to know we did it against some tough friggin competition. But let it remain I am not happy with 7-6 and i don't think any of our players are. they know what they are capable of.

    Re: 2010 Season

I probably would considering that our defense will probably still be relatively weak compared to the competition. Also, it's only year 2 in Rhoads tenure and therefore winning records would be important for recruiting purposes. It wold give him one more year to build the defense line before i would expect more than 6 wins.

    Re: 2010 Season

Is that *Regular* season 2010? Or is that saying we lose the bowl game and go 6-7?

With 6 wins, that's basically saying we win the games we are "supposed" to win or really "should" win, +/- a game depending on one's opinion on which games are to be considered "should" wins.

Now, assuming you mean the latter, 6 regular season wins by most accounts would be a successful year given the competition. I would like to see us take a step forward this year and pull out one of those real tough wins, as we did last year in Lincoln, but NOT lose any of the games that we woulda/shoulda/coulda pulled out, like KU, KSU, Mizzou of 2009. That is the kind of progress I'd like to see from year 1 under CPR to year 2.

So if I follow what I just wrote, then No, I think we can get 7 regular season wins.

Ummmm.... yes. If we get 6 wins Paul Rhoads will be the coach of the year.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

    Re: 2010 Season

Absolutely. 6 wins will be tough to get this year with an almost entirely new defense. Let's not forget 2006 people.

Yes, especially yes if we hang around in some of the tougher games this year and I think if we do that our team will be better than their record.

    Re: 2010 Season

6 wins this season would be awesome. I think a lot of people here are getting caught up on this schedule. Look at 2011: Football - Schedule - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

That freaking schedule is brutal. It would be a miracle if we got to 6 wins in 2011, and that is why it is even more important we get to 6 this season.

    Re: 2010 Season

Man, we're getting to the point of letting coach Rhoads walk on water. Would I take six wins right now? You bet. Would it mean that it's a sign that we're heading in the right direction? You bet. Would it mean that Paul Rhoads is the best football coach in the world? Nope. It means that he was able to not lose any games that we wasn't suppose too, he was able to go .500 in the toss-ups, and he lead us to no upsets. If we're going to lower expectations to that point, Jim Walden would be a hell of a coach at ISU again.

Six wins keeps our head above water. Anything less than six is trouble. Anything more than six keeps the discussion going was to whether or not coach Rhoads walks on water. Thus, again, I'd take six wins right now and start talking about the more difficult schedle we face in 2011.

    Re: 2010 Season

    Yes yes and absolutely yes.

If you look at the schedule in 2010 and 2011, it makes that bowl win in 2009 seem even bigger. Without it, you could easily be looking at CPR going through his first three years without a bowl trip, then factor in the Chiz and the end of the Mac era and you could have been looking at a 6 year bowl drout. If we could steal another one in 2010 or 2011 it would be huge for the momentum of our program.

    Re: 2010 Season

This year. Yes. I really want last year to not look like a fluke as it will go a LONG way towards PR building a program and a bowl trip in year 2 with our schedule would REALLY help.
