Well, to be absolutely honest, you have to have someone to beat on (NW in most cases now, add us and you got 2 teams that the big dogs look at and say "Theres a W") and they can view us as that if they want, but we are also competitive in other sports.

Plus, if you have a league with Nebbie, Wisc, Minne, Iowa, & Missouri, it only makes sense to add the one team in the middle: ISU. Save a ton on travel and look out for your student athletes by having the travel time reduced. Plus it would be great for fans of those schools as it makes for another easy road trip for football, basketball, etc.

It would be awesome as far as a league goes, but we just don't add TVs, which mean $$$, so unfortunately, I don't see it happening...
The only reason we don't add TV's at this point is because we are never ON TV!!

true that fans don't know what the rankings are, but the fans are not the ones making the decisions when it comes to conference realignment.

This to some extent. The people making these calls are very aware of the directors cup. But I would guess it's more of a requisite than the deciding factor.

That being said, put us in the Big 10 and a few years with a new coach and we could once again be very relevant in Basketball. Right now we would probably be in the middle of the Big 10 in football and seem to be on the rise. That would could do a lot for our appeal. Almost wish they weren't going to do anything until 2013, we'd have a few years under the Mayor in bball to get a better idea of where we are there and would be coming out of a much more beneficial football schedule.

2013 has the potential to be a break out year in Iowa State Athletics that sends us to unprecedented levels of success across the board.

Re: ESPN Big10 Blog Expansion-ISU Directors Cup Ranking

I have loved the big 12 (and big 8 before) for so long and its accompanying rivalries, and it sickens me a bit to actually want ISU to go to the big 10. We have to want what is best for the university we love, and financially it is crystal clear what the best move would be. Now, we wait to see if a move is even an option...

Pretty sure KU fans don't care about this Cup. I think they'll stick to their Big 12 Championships and NCAA runs.

Before you shoot your mouth off get your facts straight. The point total and ranking is for winter sports only.

Have fun watching Iowa Play nebraska every year in football..
True, those are the winter sports, but ISU also placed in the top 25 for the fall sports as well if my memory serves me correct.

The directors cup points that are listed are for winter sports only.

I wouldn't get too chirpy, at least until you actually read the link posted that the blog was written from.

Cleveland, Ohio Ė With 962 overall points, Stanford remains in the lead in the final winter Learfield
Sports Directorsí Cup Standings. The Cardinal scored 592 winter points, with top-10 finishes in womenís
basketball, menís gymnastics, womenís gymnastics, menís swimming, womenís swimming and National
    Collegiate (NC) fencing.
That is just the first paragraph but it does mean that the points are as of the final winter period. The scores and standing include the fall season as well.

Re: ESPN Big10 Blog Expansion-ISU Directors Cup Ranking

If I remember correctly, Bowlsby left Iowa for Stanford specifically because he wanted to compete for the Director's Cup title. Don't underestimate it's importance to AD's and conference leadership. Due to Title IX and conference rules for membership, we will ALWAYS have to offer a number of the non-revenue sports. If I remember right, we could only drop one sport and still be eligible for BigXII membership. If we have to participate in a sport, we might as well win...

I'm sure they do. And anybody that thinks director's cup standings mean a hill of beans in the conference realignment needs their head checked. It's about money, which means football and TV.

You really like speaking out of your arse, don't you...

ISU is ranked 22 in TOTAL POINTS, not "winter sports only"
