how do other big 12 coaches feel?

Has anyone heard anything about how other coaches in the big 12 feel about "the mayor" coming back to Ames? I mean a guy with connections like him and the caliber of player he was and who he was coached by you would think they would have some feelings on the subject. I mean i think he is going to be a recruiting monster, signed 2 good kids in his first week on the job?

I'd imagine they're disappointed McDermott is gone. We actually have a chance to be successful now.

Re: how do other big 12 coaches feel?

I would assume that most of the Big 12 coaches would have to ask their ADs about who Fred Hoiberg is.

Big 12 Coaches who were assistants or players in the Big 8 during Hoiberg's time at ISU:

Bill Self - assistant at OK St.
Doc Sadler - assistant at Texas Tech * (Tech was not a Big 8 school)
Travis Ford - played at Mizzou from 1989-90 and transferred to Kentucky, so he might know a little bit about The Mayor
Mark Turgeon - assistant at Kansas

Had to edit, forgot it was the Big 8 then.

They may not think much of him since most likely other coaches do not know what he means to Iowa State. Although Some coaches could be concerned because they do not know how the mayor is going to coach. In my opinion, there is a lot of uncertainty in the air right now and no one knows how its going to pan out.

Did you ever notice how the Big 12 coaches always touted GMac as a great coach? Ya, great to play against.

They should be taking pictures for the memories of this year and be nice to us since the tables will be turned soon. I'm guessing the other Big12 fans are jealous that we have our own living legend as coach.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what was running through Frank Martin's mind to close out the Big 12 season...

He has been scouting the Big 12 for the T'Wolves. I really doubt any of the Big 12 coaches had to ask who he is.

Absolutely no offense to the original poster, but I really don't give a damn what the other coaches in the Big 12 think about this hire. It's a legitimate question to raise, but since all of these people need to BEAT ISU one or two times every season in order to increase the success at their own jobs, I don't think you'll find a single unbiased opinion on "what's best for ISU".

Re: how do other big 12 coaches feel?

I think just about everyone not associated with the Rag or Perrault agree - the hire has extremely risky, but has the potential to be an absolute slam dunk. What more else needs to be said? Why should the other coaches really care?
