ANyone tried to sell a house lately

Probably going to put my townhouse on the market soon in Ankeny. Anyone had any luck selling anything lately? I realize its probably going to be pretty tough to get rid of.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

we have an inexpensive, but nice (considering price range), home in west Ames that has sat vacant for the last 7 months.

although, I'm fairly sure this has more to do with a filthy neighbor who leaves crap scattered all over his yard and is generally a disgusting individual. potential buyers love driving up and seeing some 2 year old with a rat tail potty training in the front yard and then playing naked on his tire pile. who said hawk fans aren't classy?

kids still have rat tails? that's grounds for getting your children taken away from you.

Re: ANyone tried to sell a house lately

I bought a townhouse in West Des Moines in October. I also looked in Ankeny.

There were a lot of the entry level townhomes for sale when I was looking. I could afford to be very picky. I bought one in a community with older townhomes b/c I wanted a basement and the new ones going up are almost always on a slab. There were a surprising number that were really, really outdated. Those don't appeal to a townhouse buyer b/c we tend to be single and not really interested in doing a lot of work to fix it up.

Are friends townhouse in Glen Oaks has been on the marker for around a year, hopefully you can sell it sooner then that. Just remember, it only takes 1 buyer to get it sold.

Re: ANyone tried to sell a house lately

When my wife and I got married, she had a townhouse, and I had my house in Indianola. We sold her townhouse after about 7 months, and at about that time got married (two years ago). We then bought another house, and rented my old house for a year. After 10 months on the market, we finally got an offer (and accepted) last week. We're paying $15,000 out of pocket to get rid of it.

when they moved in I asked the guy where he works. his response "odd jobs over in boone". that explains both the rat tail and the reasoning behind being an Iowa fan

It sucks, but townhomes are a dime a dozen. There really isn't much that makes them unique. The only leg up you can get is pricing it to sell. That's really the only thing that will get a buyer's attention.

Parents are trying to sell their house out in the country to move closer to the city. Huge house on an acreage, lots of space everywhere, good school district, yet no offers. It's a tough economy...

Re: ANyone tried to sell a house lately

Good luck. I have had a few freinds sell houses the last few months. The market is better than last year but still slow. One friend sold theirs in 2 weeks. If the tax gift is extended it may help you sell yours quicker. All depends on what you have and if it is different than what others have to offer. Dont forget this:

4 years ago we sold our townhome in Johnston in 2 days. Those were the good ole' days.

I think it also helped that we bought the cheapest townhome in a more expensive development.

Re: ANyone tried to sell a house lately

The markets which have dropped the most in price (Las Vegas, Phoenix, etc.) have experienced large increases in the number of homes sold.....than should tell you something.
