    Brian Kelly

Sports Illustrated interviewed him this week for their issue. One of the questions was
"Do you think that kids want to play in a conference?" (referring to Notre Dame football)

He replied: "Ask Texas if they'd like to go to Iowa State every other year. Look, I could take our football team anywhere in the country and that is attractive to a young man if he knows he can play in different destinations of a conference affiliate can get worn and old, and in the recruiting process I can pitch national, and that helps us.

    Thoughts?

He said a similar thing on the Dan Patrick show a couple weeks ago. He's letting Pollard know the mistake JP made by not hiring him.

It was in the section of SI that is a transcript of the interview from the radio. Just saw it myself a couple of hours ago. At least it wasn't a new interview, just a rehashing.

well ask Notre Damn if they feel jealous that Iowa makes about as much money as they do thanks to the Big 10 network.

    Re: Brian Kelly

I have heard him talk about the ND situation he in inherited. He made an interesting comment about too many guys on the team not really there to play for ND but rather there playing for a higher NFL draft position.

I found it interesting that it appears Weis' approach of "I'm an NFL guy with NFL contacts that can put you into the NFL" seems to have backfired on him at ND. He always got great players but never seemed to have a great team. Maybe too many mercenary types just worried about themselves and their draft status instead of wanting to play for ND.

You absolutely need talent to compete but the best collection of talent does not always equal the best team...witness the fact that the US has not won the gold in every olympic MBB tournament since pros have been playing for us and witness the fact that the Yankees don't win the WS every year.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

My thought is to be patient. CPR will end backhanded comments like this. Being able to set your own schedule is an advantage for ND but it's not an accident that BK mentioned ISU. It's pretty comical to me that he even cares (he obviously does, a lot). Does this mean he's going to put UT on the schedule? I'd love to see UT, NU or OU kick ND's ***. I'd like to see us get that chance...

I'd still take Rhoads anyday over Kelly. I don't see him turning ND around much at all.

Kelly would have been out of here as quickly as he got out of Cincy. We're in better shape now.
