Nice article on Grayer recruiting Michigan

"We need to continue to have a strong recruiting group, and not only that, once we get the kids, we have to keep them," Grayer said. "We need to be able to develop strong relationships to the point where these kids are comfortable and stay and continue to grow as a Cyclone."

While Grayer is aware of the challenges, he's happy to be able to give back to a university that helped him mature as a player and person.

"It was the developing ground for me," he said. "I wanted to leave Flint and go somewhere where I could develop into a young man. I chose Iowa State because it would allow me to focus on my books, my grades and also because it would all me to develop as an athlete."

"In the mid 1980s, two of the biggest stars in Flint ended up playing college basketball in the state of Iowa, Northwestern's Jeff Grayer at Iowa State and Beecher's Roy Marble at Iowa."

Surprised they didn't mention Barry Stevens coming from Flint as well.

    Who is Roy Marble?

He played for Iowa and I believe his son (Roy Jr.) signed LOI w/ Iowa. I'm not sure if he's still going after coaching change.

Solid...when do you think was the last time there was any article about ISU MBB in a Michigan paper not relating to the playing of an actual game?

The hiring of both Grayer and Hoiberg has certainly garnered some press for us.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

This needs to be a selling point for all recruits in urban environments. I loved getting out of the city and to Ames.

First things first: Keep Iowans in Iowa considering the decent talent coming out of high school in the coming years.

How do you come up with that presumption? Harrison Barnes excluded....

Looks like there's a PG named Patrick Lucas-Perry from Flint in the 2011 recruiting class in the Rivals 150. I say...go get him Jeff!

Edit: Ehh...might be a tough get. His ESPN profile says his brother plays at Michigan.
