Hoiberg On the KFAN (1130AM) with PA

It's been a long time since I've posted here, but my excitement with this hire is through the roof right now and I needed to get back on with the fanatics to celebrate!

The Mayor was just on KFAN with Paul Allen up here in the Twin Cities and gave a great interview and a lot of props to Ames. Check the link below periodically for the podcast once it's posted.

I couldn't be more thrilled with this hire, but I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed Fred and his family will no longer be living in Chaska. That aside, this guy belongs in Ames. GO CYCLONES!!

I'm sure it will suck not being able to party with him anymore, but this is for the greater good.

This hiring is kinda surreal, like a TV sitcom situated in the 50's (let's use Happy Days). Freddy comes home after college and marries his HS sweatheart, Carol. They buy the foundering Al's Diner, revive it and everybody lives happily ever after. At least until Fonzie jumps the shark...

Good interview. It was hilarious when Fred busted PA's chops by saying he had 3 chins and one eyebrow haha!

Also, once again Hoiberg expresses how important DG is to the team, which is cool because the kid does have some skill. It was apparent in the way he managed the OT in Manhattan against K-State. It's definitely DG's time to shine and I think the kid is capable.

Re: Hoiberg On the KFAN (1130AM) with PA

SeattleClone > Yeah, Fred & I were really tight & we partied all the time....

I will share a funny story about how I found out Freddy lived in Chaska for the 1st time though....

My wife and I accidentally pulled up in front of Fred's house one day b/c his neighbor next door was having a garage sale that we were gonna check out. When we parked in front of his house, there was an older gentleman starring us down from the porch as if he was upset that we were parking in front of his house.

As we left the garage sale and were heading back to the car, the older gentleman started walking towards us and I was thinking "is he really gonna give me crap for parking in front of his house?" But then the guy just cracked a smile & said "Go Cyclones" b/c he saw that I still had cyclone license plates on my car.

So then we smiled back and had a conversation with him for a bit. He said he was a professor at ISU for many years and that his son used to play for the Cyclones MBB team. I said "really, what was his name" - and he said "Fred Hoiberg, do you remember him?" My heart then skipped a few beats and I said "THE MAYOR!!!... of course I remember him - he's the greatest cyclone of all time and one of my childhood heros growing up." He got a kick out of me referring to him as "the mayor."

Anyway, we talked to Mayor Sr. for awhile and he was very nice and very humbled that we were such big fans of his son and of ISU. It was a pretty cool experience aside from not speaking with Fred directly and it's just funny that he probably thought we were some stalker fans pulling up in front of Fred's house initially, but really we were just going to the garage sale next door.

With that all said, I'm sure the Hoiberg's will be missed in Chaska. As JHudd (who also lives in Chaska) posted earlier, Freddy actually got some votes for Chaska Mayor in the last election. The guy definitely makes an impact in his community no matter where he goes. I'm sure Freddy will also miss playing Hazeltine as much as he did since he lived a block away.

He's a salty 6 handicap at Hazeltine, which is ridiculously hard.

Though he wouldn't have missed it come July 6, when they are torching the fairways and rebuilding the greens.

That's gonna go up now, no time to golf. I will stipulate that FH can be successful in this role, but he can't be successful and maintain a low handicap......not enough time in the day.

It sounded like McD was by far the best golfer out of the coaches aside from Norton and the women's coach. Must be something about the game of BB and your handicap.
