    Re: Dez Bryant Interview

I think the question may have been okay. His mom has a pretty shady past and Bryant may have implied this. Also, they are paying him millions and if she is in a dangerous lifestyle it may put him in risky situations.

Although if he just came out and said, "Now tell me son, is your mama a whore?", that would cross the line.

So when did it become ok to ask "Is your mom a prostitute?" (outside of CF of course )

You are paying HIM millions of dollars, not his family. Don't damn him for things he can't control. He cannot make decisions for his family. That would be like an employer not hiring me because a relative of mine got a DUI.

    Re: Dez Bryant Interview

I'm not entirely sure what his mother being a prostitute would have to do with his NFL career anyway. It's not like he's Alex Trebek and Sean Connery would be calling his mother a whore to his face everyday...

This isn't a job interview to be the janitor at ISU. He is representing the orginization, fans, city. Character counts. If his family has a shady past it could effect him and the team. Say his mom is a hooker and is in drugs. Now some pretty bad people are around her and they start demanding money, want to associate with him, etc. That could lead to a poor investment by the team via his mom's lifestyle.

Don't you mean totally unprofessional by the General Manager?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

Also his mom was convicted of some drug trafficing (along those lines, can't remember). He may have said something to make one believe that she was and he came flat out and asked it.

    Re: Dez Bryant Interview

I liked the response by the Player's Union guy. He basically said that these young men are professionals, and they should be treated as professionals. I doubt in the hiring process for a high-level corporate job that they would think about asking that person something so personal and so irrelevant.

    Re: Dez Bryant Interview

I don't see the problem with this question during an interview, unless like ddisu says it was presented in a derogatory manner. If it were in a line of questions like has your mother ever been convicted of a crime? Bought, sold, or used drugs? Gamble? Engage in prostitution? etc, then no problem. A majority of people get to laugh these types of questions off.

Believe it or not, there are people out there that have the sole purpose of getting their hooks into an athlete and use whatever leverage they can find to get them to alter their performance - shave points, throw games, etc. What better way to gain leverage over a player than to target a loved one? Don't get me wrong, I don't think this kind of thing happens much, but it has to be a possibility that any organization should know about so they can help the player.

Also, for those of you with a problem with this, never ever apply for a job that requires a security clearance. The questions that are asked during the psychiatric evaluation make this one seem tame.
