Re: how come Gary has never coached?

    a) there's no money in coaching (certainly none in his day)
    b) he was one of those guys who is almost too gifted to coach well - it's hard not to tell a kid, "Just break him down to the baseline, kick it out by deflecting it off the back of the guy behind him, catch your own deflection, throw a no-look pass to the center. If he kicks it back to you, just run to the other end of the court and launch a full-court shot. That should work 80% of the time -- aw, forget it, let me go out and do it myself."
    c) there's still no money in coaching.

I think Gary makes plenty o' money thru gas. There was always rumors on why gas was 10cents per gallon more in Ames than DM.

He hasn't coached ISU because he prefers bass fishing over ice fishing

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'
