Count me as one that just isn't too worried about his coaching abilities. The man as connections as deep as the Grand Canyon. He has a TREMENDOUS supporting cast that he can tap into at the push of a button. He will not fail at ISU.

At least we are on ESPN and it's not bad.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I think that's a pretty fair blog. It is a risk no doubt, especially if you're an outsider looking in.

Still I have the sneaking suspicion the writer attended Eastern Iowa U....

He has the passion to be at ISU. He's wanted this forever. He knows a ton of people that will benefit him tremendously.

The only worry I really have is that "learning curve". The Big XII is consistently a top conference - year in and year out. Great coaches, many of the schools will always have better players.

How fast can Fred catch up?

It's fun to be the underdog/little guy/etc... Everyone is quick to throw their red flag because a lack of coaching. Well, guess what? He's been around and is connected to some of the best coaches out there. That's alright. It's always better to laugh after the fact, than to run your mouth and be proved wrong in the end (looking at you doubters).

Think about it. If he shows improvement, gets solid assistants, etc the first year, I would imagine support would show up from all directions to get him whatever he needs to really send this thing forward.

He is obviously a very smart man. It may take a season for him to be up to speed, but I think that's really it. He wasn't in the last position because he was a 'dumb jock'.

I'm fine with pointing out the risks. But why is nobody pointing out how his ceiling is much higher than any other candidate?

I, for one, would welcome an NBA style offense. Always great spacing, great use of the shot clock (2 for 1's, etc.. which are non-existant in college).

Exactly! Every single ISU booster wants to make sure Fred has everything he needs to be successful. Not a single ISU fan could have ANY ill-will towards the man. I think this is going to be a fun, fun ride.

I knew the Mayor was good but replacing Rhoads as well? I didn't know he was going to be the football coach too?

Excellent article. Maybe the DMR will pick it up for syndication.
