    MBB recruit problems

Marcus Brister might not be able to make it due to the school he attends. I would say that he won't make it. I would also say that there are a few different options here. We are still recruiting a few guards. One is J.R. Smiths little brother Chris Smith. He might also have academic problems. The other is Marcus Walker a JC transfer. Here is a link to the article about Brister. There also might be an unknown out there for a guard spot.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

I thought I had heard this before. This makes a lot of sense since the top two competitors we had for him were Southern and Prairie View. Both of these schools are willing to take kids with less than stellar academic records.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

anyone remember that thread where people were a little concerned about God's Academy? Looks like it was well founded.......not sure how God dropped the ball on this one but, hey he's pretty busy to be worrying about curriculum.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

Good FREAKING lord...can we catch a break EVER?!?!?

I know nothing is finalized and they can "individually review his transcript", but given how successful we've been with these in the past, I don't like our chances either.

Anyone want to bet that Brister will probably be the only one of the 3 that the NCAA witholds. The other 2 will probably skate through.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

Step back for a bit and relax, I believe that Brister will be fine. From what I understand, he was a full qualifier out of high school and from what I've heard, he should be able to come to ISU, regardless of this ruling. I will try and get some further confirmation but I personally am not worried right now.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

It's WAYYYYYY too early to say how this affects Brister.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

Actually Brister was not a full qualifier out of High School. That is why he never committed to or visited any other school before he started searching for schools this year.

Everything I have seen states that he qualified out of Duncanville High School and had a qualifying test score but went the prep route to increase his stock as a recruit.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

What I have read about him is that he was a qualifier based on core courses out of Duncanville and that is what ruling is about so I don't think it should affect him. Test score might be a different deal out of hs but that wont have anything to do with GA.

Lets not get too riled up until we hear more on how this directly affects him and if/when he'll get a review.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

About 3 weeks ago I met this guy that went to Duncanville HS with Brister through a friend of a friend of a friend deal. Anyway, one thing led to another and him and I got to talking during our arm wrestling match. To confuse him, I started to talk about myself and when I said I went to ISU, he perked up and said that he was descent friends with Brister and he heard he had commited to the Clones. Anyway, just before I slammed his hand down because the tourney champ, he said that Brister was a smart kid and had great grades in high school.

I believed the guy, but didn't get a chance to ask any follow up questions after I humiliated him. Some people are such sore losers.

    Re: MBB recruit problems

    Dallas Morning News article...

Eligibility ruling goes against God's Academy | Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | SportsDay: Top Stories

According to Miller, the ruling could affect the eligibility of three graduating seniors who transferred from area public schools: Jaren English (Keller Central), Duwan Kornegay (Fort Worth Southwest) and Jordan Smith (Colleyville Heritage). He said all three are weighing offers but have not committed to schools.

The NCAA said individuals who had already graduated from other institutions and went to God's Academy for prep school would not be affected by the ruling. Prospective student-athletes who are currently enrolled at God's Academy can request to have their academic records reviewed on an individual basis to gain initial eligibility.
