    Fennelly support

Curious as to your opinions. McDermott mentioned in his presser at CU the importance of his friendship with Coach Fennelly. Obviously Fennelly has is own job but...

What kind of relationship do you see Fennelly and Hoiberg developing?

Beyond the arguments about CFH's experience/capabilities as a head coach, I can't help but be excited about the stability that we're developing. Coaches Fennelly, Rhoads and Lynch all look to be here quite a while. If Freddy pans out he could be ISU's coach for 20 years.

Bill will love Fred. I think a big reason why Bill and Greg are friends is that they share the same type of values. I suspect Fred and Bill will have a similar relationship. All I think Bill cares about is that a coach cares about Iowa State and will work hard and work fairly to get the job done. I think it is clear that he felt that with Greg and I think he will with Fred.

The OP has got me thinking. Just imagine what the office would be like if Billy Gillispie and Bill Fennelly worked in the same office. jsb talked about values and I don't see Gillispie and Fennelly's values matching.

I do not think there is any doubt about this. I remember a few years ago Freddy was at the 2007 NCAA Womens Tourney in Minneapolis. We all know how passionate BF is about ISU and that is the thing that he and Freddy will share the most. They have a lot of common friends in the Ames community. This will be a perfect fit for hopefully MANY years to come.

    Re: Fennelly support

Great point. There's certainly no requirement for the head coaches to be all warm and fuzzy but it doesn't hurt. Look at the press Tennessee gets when the head football coach attends the women's NCAA tournament games.

I imagine CPR and Hoiberg will hit it off. Were they at ISU at the same time?

Me either. Bill would probably rally and support him publically, but I don't think there would be that friendship there.

I think they'll be a friendship between Bill and Fred. Obviously a bit different than the one with Greg since Greg and Bill are closer in age.

    Re: Fennelly support

From what I know about Bill, he will be pleased with the hire. Fred is a native Iowan, a family man, and understands the culture in Ames. I would not be surprised at all if Fred doesn't use Bill in a mentor role until he gets settled. Bill will be able to help him understand the rigors of coaching day to day, and I woudln't be shocked at all the see Fred at the women's games when he can. As much as I disliked Greg as a coach, he was at as many of the women's games as he could be and his players were there too. I respected him for supporting our women's program.

Ames and Nevada. Local flavor for bball and fball coaches.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
