Jay Bilas and Dick Vitale weigh in

Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas not overly concerned about Hoiberg's lack of experience | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

“It’s an inspired choice,” Bilas said. “Fred has had tremendous experience in the game. He has competed at the highest level from high school to pro, and he has pro experience in management as well. I think it’s a great choice. He understands Iowa State. He has a passion for the university.”

I almost expected the national media to rip this hire hard.

Instead, I think the local media will perceive it much more harshly.

Like the article, doesn't make me feel much better about the hire... I just think there were better candidates calling us that we could have gotten.

I must say, I find Vitale's analysis much less annoying when I'm not watching him on TV. Good read.

He's ripped/ignored ISU a lot in the past. Even when we were good and relevant.

Let's see two analyst with a great background in college basketball and they are more inspired by this choice than many Cyclone faithful - what does this say about the fanbase that hangs out on this site???

I would like to hear who these better candidates were? Inside info? Only name that's been published is Gillespie, whom Geoffrey would never hire. Then Thompson doing his best sales/spin job was the only other hint that I've heard of someone truly interested.

I'm thinking this was an obvious choice to JP after the initial smattering of calls came in that weren't nearly as sexy as we hoped.

I don't know what you are reading, but i think the overall moral has been pretty excited about the hire.

Vitale just is sucking up to Coach because of "The Orr Factor"
