Is Billy Gillispie one of Pollardís Jedi mind tricks?

With all the publicity that Gillispie is getting I am wondering if this rumor is just too popular to be true. Pollard is notorious for playing games with the public when it comes to coaching searches. For instance, Brian Kelly was a “done deal” until we all suddenly found out the GC was the target all along. Likewise Rob Jeter was supposed to be our guy until GMac got the nod. I’m wondering if Billy G is another Kelly or Jeter…someone who will take all the press and attention away from the real coaching search being conducted.

Why for instance would Gary Thompson deliberately mention BG and 15 other unnamed candidates? PERHAPS it is because the mystery candidates don’t want their current schools to know about their interest in the ISU job. HOWEVER, there still seems to be something deliborate in this Thompson press release. Pollard is secretive with his coaching searches. Why would he openly state one of his candidates?

Conversely, maybe Pollard is playing a mind trick, maybe he knows that we know how he rolls when it comes to finding a coach and is staying one step ahead. Maybe Billy G is the guy and Pollard wants us to think he is the smoke screen. Maybe he knows that we know that he knows….

its stated by thompson that gillespie's name was mentioned because he didn't care that it was - he's unemployed right now.

Pollard wont hire a coach with a drinking problem

If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find
them - maybe you can hire: The A-Team.

This is a smokescreen. I think the original poster hit the nail on the head. Classic Pollard move...

The "drinking problem", someone has to make the call on. It probably shouldn't be that difficult to do. You figure out whether you believe the guy changed his ways or he didn't. You do that AND get yourself an out in the contract. For the kind of jack these guys are making, it's not a lot to ask, to avoid having mug-shots in the newspaper.

For the record on the OP, Brian Kelly wasnt a 'mind trick'. We were ready to hire Kelly, Kelly was waiting to see if the MSU job opened up. We didnt want to wait, Kelly didnt confirm at the deadline we gave, and we went with Chizik instead.

Have we EVER hired the first name that started floating around out there? No. Does it mean it can't happen? No...but I think it is highly unlikely.

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

BCG isn't the first guy to wilt under the pressure at Kentucky (Eddie Sutton). I don't know if he is the guy but to hold his two years in Lexington and the subsequent transgressions against him, is unfair in my opinion.
