    Jake Sullivan on 1700

Surprisingly good interview by Cotlar and co.

Said he would support LE coming back.
Told about the differences between the MVC and the BCS conferences.
    Talked about Grayer.
Said the new coach needs personality to bring the fans back.

    Re: Jake Sullivan on 1700

It was a really good interview. It really makes me want Jake to be apart of the Cyclone family again in some way.

I thought what he said about having a guy that the fans can relate to was dead on. I think the last person that was truly a fan favorite was Rhashon Clark. And he was a fan favorite because he gave it everything he could every single game. The only one on the team this past year who could say this would be Booz.

What did he have to say about Grayer?

As great as the players have been over the years, I think our coaches have driven Hilton Magic. From Orr to Floyd to Eustachy, their personalities are what fueled their teams and the atmosphere at Hilton. I don't think Morgan or McDermott ever connected with the fan base. They were too laid back. I hope we can get a coach that will get us charged up again for ISU basketball like Roades has done for football.

    Re: Jake Sullivan on 1700

I didn't hear the interview but I would put personality pretty far below a number of qualities we have to have in a coach. Put simply, we've got to start winning if we want ISU MBB to be anywhere near what it has been and what it could be. Just win. LE did not really have a great personality. Sure, we all learned to love his wierd humor and all the things LE was but a fan engaging personality he was not.

Find me a coach who can win basketball games...that's it.

I gotta agree with Mustang on this, a personality that everyone loves breeds a tolerance for mediocrity. Start winning some games, hell start competing for some wins.

I concur. It's not just about x's and o's. Personality and charisma can help make a coach a great leader and a great recruiter. It can also enhance the fan experience.

Could we give Jake a high position in our program? or even the top spot? It could be similar to Frank Martin getting K-State job.

I would hope not! Jake seems ISU-friendly only when it benefits Jake!

    How is it similar?

Frank Martin was Huggins assistant when he left for West Virginia.

I think Jake may not have been McD friendly, we will see with this next hire what happens with him.

    Re: Jake Sullivan on 1700

Here we go...we hire four people to be head coach. Lets get Hoiberg, Hornaceck (sp?), Sullivan and Grayer.

    How can you go wrong?

    Re: Jake Sullivan on 1700

I think personality is really important at places like ISU. Okay if guys can flat out win(Eustachy 1 year....) people will give you a break. Most years your going to have some tough losses and a guy with a good sense of humor really helps grease the wheels(Johnny Orr, Tim Floyd).

Jake's no dummy. I'm a little surprised he'd support Eustachy, but he may be just playing to the politics and knows there's not much of a chance of that happening anyway.
