Wait a minute. He was at Kentucky when our AD department told Wesley he can get out of his LOI, as long as he doesn't go to Kentucky or Alabama as they were suspected of tampering. I doesn't make sense that our AD would want to hire a guy that was suspected of doing this. I think he is a great coach, but you guys think there isn't some history there?

I kind of resent that one donor is pushing this hire.

I felt sick last Febrary when his name was being floated out there for if McDermott was fired. I feel sick that it is getting traction right now.

I too would love to know the other two coaches. I suspect that Fran Frashilla has some interest if this is coming up.
None of us can predict the future...not you, not me.

But all of this moral indignation you and others have is really kind of comical to me. We are not hiring for altar boy here...we are hiring for HC in the tough, cut-throat business that is NCAA DI CBB.

Why would he have to live the life of a hermit in Iowa? Just because people in Kentucky think they have a right to know how many bowel movements their HC has every day doesn't mean it is that way in Ames...does it? I don't think so.

I want someone that can recruit a state like Texas that has a ton of talent. Having an Iowa Boy coach really helped us out this year when we finally had a really good player in Iowa...didn't it?!

Did you feel "sick" when we hired McCarney after it became clear he had beat his first wife? Were you pounding the drum to have LE canned when it was clear he liked to party with girls half his age while his team and his family were elsewhere? I hope so, because the only thing worse than moral indignation is selective moral indignation.

Fran...that is name that popped into my head as well. But he is a New Yorker that now lives in Texas...how in the world could he ever recruit in Iowa? See, we can bring up the "warts" on just about every candidate. This news just in...there is no perfect candidate out there...never has been, never will be.

For me, I want a guy that has proven he can have success in a power conference...BCG is a guy like that, Mike Davis is a guy like that.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Exactly. Also, we all know how JP likes to run his searches. QUIET! A name drop usually means no chance, which I would be happy about in this case. (I'm against Billy as our new coach)

Apparently, though, this is different. Billie Gillispe apparently contacted us. That indicates there is no reluctance, he wants to coach here. He would be a good hire.
Just a FYI, ISU is not a destination job. 9 out of 10 guys are going to leave ISU after sustained success. I don't see anything wrong with that as that's the case with 95% of the jobs in college basketball.

I would hope that JP entertains the idea and possibly even interviews him. As long as a lot of background work is done, I would love hiring Gillispie.

There probably isn't a bigger "get" than him because we can't afford anyone with his creditials. So for all of the people who are completely against him, there shouldn't be any complaining when we hire Weber State's coach.

Maybe because some people think he's a good coach, he's been successful here, ISU is a better job, and he'd probably come here? I think it's ridiculous that you can't even fathom why someone would bring his name up. Not saying I want him back--but man, if you can't even realize why some people would bring his name up then this must be your first week as an ISU fan......

I agree with this but I think there is no destination job out there. If you think that Calipari will be at UK forever...think again...the NBA will call again at some point and he will be gone (witness Pete Carroll in FB).

Why so many ISU fans are looking for a "coach for life" is really disturbing to me. The blunt reality in the industry is that 4 or 5 years is about an average tenure in the profession and if someone makes it at a particular school 10 or 12 years that is considered an eternity in this profession.

I don't want to hire a coach for life...just one that will win while at ISU.

I'm not sure if I'm against him or not right now, but his name being out there suggests that it doesn't matter either way.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

BG went to high school with a friend of mine and from what I've been told he is a great guy that had not learned how to handle the riches and fame. If he has matured to the point where that is not an issue, hire him now!
