Look for a successful coach at a smaller program that can recruit.
How about taking a 0-16 team to 8-8 the next year with someone elses guys. You can make alot of the Kentucky deal but he made the postseason both years he was there. I think BG is better off in a lower pressure situation. I think he would work here.

Pollard was involved as well. We have who we have as "experts".

I think BG should be considered and properly vetted. Let the chips fall from there.

It is a risk. Absolutely. We just saw 4 years of results of taking a risk on a Mr. Clean mid major type and we all know the results. Billy G. is a winner. I would cut the guy some slack for the drinking issues. His major issues came at Kentucky which is one of the highest pressure jobs in the country. The Kentucky job could make the Pope an alcoholic. Every coaching hire is a risk that we have to take and I think with the atmosphere that Ames provides, the fan base we have, the administrators we have, and the support that he would receive from everyone involved in ISU athletics I think the guy could be a huge success story both personally and professionally. This could be a wet dream for ISU as far as publicity goes. Hire the guy who is rebuilding his career after his rocky past and when he wins at ISU it will be one of those stories that every sportswriter will be talking about..... constantly. I think it is a risk that is absolutely worth taking.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but the fact that it was put out in the public makes me wonder if it's not out there for a reason-

Billy G gets his name mentioned in association with a BCS job, and ISU makes it's position a little more desirable with a name coach in the mix. Not sure if there's any truth to that, but it does seem strange that it's out there from such a reliable source.

The fact that his name is out there publicly, this soon, suggests that he won't coach here. Still doesn't mean I don't want him here.

If I remember correctly I don't think GT was 100% behind the GMAC hiring. I don't think he liked the style of play he was going to bring to ISU because that style doesn't fit the Big XII. I could be wrong but I remember something being reported to that effect.

In my dealings with hiring at work, the people openly clamoring for any particular job are the ones you want to stay away from.

    Get him!!!

If Billy Clyde wants the job I fully expect him to be the next coach at ISU. Look, the guys has made his mistakes but he can also flat out coach AND recruit. Hiring the guy would put ISU back on the national map overnight. The fans that are on the fence about this hire would be fully on board once the guy was able to speak to the fanbase...not to mention when we start winning again.

Re: Billy Gillispe calls Gary Thompson...two others called him as well

Jesus you guys, you guys are acting like Billy G killed someone and got away with it! If Pollard interviews him and says he is a changed man HELL YEA you let him be our next basketball coach! He is a proven winner. He took TEXAS A&M to new levels, not only did he do that, but when he left there they were so good that they stayed good! He has coached big time programs in BIG TIME CONFERENCES. He knows how to RECRUIT, something we havent seent in a while around here. He will keep players around, i know Kentucky players didnt really like him much, BUT most of those guys were Tubby Smiths recruits. He doesnt have AS MUCH pressure to win here like he did at Kentucky. We are Cyclones and he will get support from all of us, kinda like he got so much love from Texas A&M. My point is big time name who has coached in big time conferences and has WON. BRING BILLY G TO IOWA STATE!

Very true! CPR contacted ISU and openly wanted the job. Worked out well I'd say.
