    Whats on my Dogs Stomach

I thought it was a tick so I got the matches out and tried to burn it. Then the white substance you see in the photo starting to come out of it.

You tried to burn a tick off your dog? Is that a self-portrait in your avatar?

I pulled off a tick on my dog the other day. Then i just shampooed the area where it was. He is fine now.

You buy tweezer for $2 and then you find the head of the tick and pull it off..... Alot easier and you won't scar your dog, or start a fire with the dogs hair.

Re: Whats on my Dogs Stomach

LOL--you just tried to melt a tick. :) The burning thing is you take a match, blow it out and immediately put it on the tick's head. The heat will cause it to back out. If not you then grab a tweezer and pull out the head.

Re: Whats on my Dogs Stomach

I've heard of using a match to get ticks off. All you're supposed to do is heat the little bugger enough so that it releases it's chompers from the dog's skin. If you just yank the tick off you run the risk of only pulling the body off, leaving the head and chompers firmly entrenched in the dog's skin, which could lead to a nasty infection. Just what I've read...

Re: Whats on my Dogs Stomach

Grab as close to the skin as possible with a tweezers and pull out slowly. Do not burn-this can cause the tick to inject previously ingested blood potentially from other animal resulting in increased risk of tick bourne diseases.

Re: Whats on my Dogs Stomach

Just to take this thread in a different direction... What do you suppose is PETA's stance on ticks? Obviously they are living, breathing beings which makes them equal to humans (in PETA's eyes), but at the same time they only survive by harming other animals. Quite a dilemna there.

Re: Whats on my Dogs Stomach

So, you thought it was a good idea to burn a tick off of an animal completely covered in hair?

    Interesting.
