    AD's gone wild

Assuming McDermott to Creighton, I am wavering on which AD pulled the biggest stunner. McD to CU or Chizek to Auburn. I still think the Chizek thing was more unbelievable. Two really bad years of his only two as a D-1 head coach and then a bigtime job at an SEC power overpowers hiring a .500 4 year career coach from a BCS conf. going down to a mid-major. The really dumb thing to me by CU was giving him 10 years at $9M. McD has got to be one of the luckiest coaches in America and must be quite the charmer. By the way, the AD at Texas Tech falls into the category of AD's gone wild too for his dismissal of the only coach who made their Football program relevant.

I still think the Chiz move is more stunning since he went to a major program.

    Re: AD's gone wild

Auburn pulled off the bigger surprise because their coach had 5 career wins.

At least McDermott has had success at every stop except Iowa State.

Outside of Kenny Lawson, their cupboard might be bare. Maybe P'Allen Stinnet can oull a Colvin and get back into play.

    Re: AD's gone wild

What's strange is how with the Gene situation, both parties probably look back and think the move was a good one. ISU got CPR and things appear to be looking good, and you'd be hard pressed to find many Auburn fans who think the Chiz was a bad hire.

    Re: AD's gone wild

Chizik's move was easily more shocking. The majority of ISU fans were still on board with Chizik's program even though it was struggling. A major program was hiring a coach with a 5-19 overall record. People will say now (my self included) that it was a blessing after Coach Rhoads came on board, but at the time it felt earth shattering.

With Mac's situation, if JP would have announced that he was fired last month, it would not have surprised many. Every coach has to constantly try to sell the program, but Mac has to see the writing on the wall too.

I though there were going to be pictures from spring break. I am a little disapponited in that but pretty happy with what this thread is really about.

Chizik landing a major SEC job with 5 wins is pretty shocking.

If true, GMac securing another nine year contract is simply amazing. That guy must know voodoo.
