    Yellow or Gold?

Did you know the following schools used yellow in their uniforms before switching to their present day gold?

    - Florida State (yellow: 1965)
    - Wake Forest (yellow: 1964-1968; 1976-1990)
    - Pittsburgh (yellow: 1980s)
    - Purdue (yellow: 1989-1990)
    - Missouri (yellow: 1983-1984)
    - Colorado (yellow: 1962)
    - Colorado State (yellow: 1965-1992)
    - Washington (yellow: 1995)

I could only find two D1 schools that made the opposite switch... from gold to their present day yellow:

    - Iowa State (gold: 1960-1967)
    - West Virginia (gold: 1973-1978)

Not only did Florida State have a bad football program before Bobby Bowden took over, their logo was atrocious (see attached picture). Florida State started using the spear in 1976, Bowden's first year as head coach.

I'm not saying that Iowa State will become an automatic powerhouse if it switches back to gold, but I don't think it would hurt either. It may be one way to help Chizik sell the program. Any chance ISU will do more than just change the design of its uniforms in 2008?

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

Missouri's colors are black and yellow (they call it gold just like we do) they don't use the gold color like the other teams.

I also like the current gold color that ISU uses I hate the real gold color.

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

We're Cardinal & Gold... PERIOD. How hard is this to understand? We're NOT Red & Yellow! It'd be great to have Cardinal (darker red but not quite burgondy) & Gold (like a brick of gold that shines). I'm a Cyclone fan regardless, but the bright red & yellow ketchup & mustard has to go... especially if that's not even our stated school colors. Let's get back to the basics... & our history.

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

I think a lot of people don't realize that, as far as university colors are concerned, there is a difference between "gold"and what is called "old gold". Old gold is a darker-tinted shade, kinda dusky. That's typically what you see when a program uses metallic gold on their helmets- Colorado is a great example; also Notre Dame. That shiny darker color is called "old gold". Real "gold" is what a lot of us are more familiar with- basically a darker shade of straight-up yellow. Few schools or programs refer to school's shad of yellow as "yellow"; it doesn't sound nearly as dignified as "gold", so that's what everyone calls it. Iowa uses gold, Iowa State uses gold, Colorado and Mizzou use gold, USC uses gold, and so on. "Gold" seems to run everywhere from neon yellow all the way to old gold.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

i think we should use the colors that tailgate uses for their apparel. i believe those are the same colors that are used for letterman jackets. those colors look so much better than the ketchup and mustard.

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

The reason that Iowa State switched from gold to yellow in 1968 is because Johnny Majors hated the bland gold look, so he switched to yellow to get more color into the uniforms. The funny thing is that he went with white pants at home and both white pants and white shirts on the road.

I Agree. Our true colors Are CARDINAL and GOLD. Personally, I think it will look a lot better. But, I would still want to use our real colors even if it looked like crap.

Yeah and look at the color on their jersey's it is not the same gold as the M on their helmets which makes them look really bad.

    Re: Yellow or Gold?

Anyone who thinks that the navy blue has no place in ISU history should probably read THIS ARTICLE

The funny thing about tradition is that everybody identifies with something else when it comes to what's "traditional." A self-proclaimed ISU purist will say that no blue should be included in Iowa State's uniforms because the colors are "cardinal and gold." True enough, but when George Veenker coached Iowa State College in the 30s, the home jerseys were navy blue. ISC's first All-American, Ed Bock, wore navy blue for his entire career. So is that not part of Iowa State's tradition?
So tell me, if everyone is so representative of, ahem, "our history," why shouldn't navy be part of our color scheme if that's what our first All-American wore?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

EXACTLY. Gold does not automatically mean METALLIC gold. Pollard has already stated the pantones. We're NOT going to metallic gold.
