1. If the plume is topping out at around 11,000 ft, why are commercial airliners having problems? Wouldn't they be around 30-35,000 transatlantic?

4. Kirkjubaejarklaustur, Iceland...after about 8 Viking Sterkur's (beer), how on earth do you tell a cab driver to take you there?
I remember reading in USA Today this past Monday that even though the ash plume isn't going up that high, that small bits of glass, rock and other very small particulate matter keep going up because they are so light, and that is what gets into the engines.
