Cyclone radio coverage for north central Iowa

I've been frustrated with Cyclone radio reception for years. Now that I'm a member of Cyclone Fanatics, I have a forum to vent.

The radio coverage map shows no radio stations that cover the Cyclones in north central Iowa (the area within Mason City, Cedar Falls, and Decorah) beyond the "fringe" lines. You can only get reception in the fringe areas on good days.

    link to cyclones.com

I noticed plenty of other fringe areas around Iowa. Do others have the same problem?

We need to get a campaign to improve radio coverage for Cyclones sports in these areas. Where do we start? Maybe putting pressure on radio stations in towns like Mason City to improve coverage of Cyclone sports?

Unhappy Re: Cyclone radio coverage for north central Iowa

I live near Dubuque and I get AM 1600 out of Cedar Rapids. It only comes in during the day hours and is a very poor signal. You go north of us and there is nothing!!!

I geuss we could write Pollard.

My parents live just south of Manchester off highway 20 and he can only pick up coverage on good days. He has been really frustrated and numerous other Cyclone fans up that way our also. I really think this is a area where Mr. Pollard needs to look at because if you don't have coverage all over the state it's hard to keep fans involved and excited when they are a hour, 2 or 3 from Ames.

Is anyone planning to have lunch with Mr. Pollard soon?

Short of that, what's the best way to get his ear on this topic?

KIOW Mix 107.3 does a nice job of coverage in north-central Iowa. They're based out of Forest City but cover Mason City and a pretty large area. Click them on the map for their coverage area.

We can get 107.3FM on a good day. But they're scratchy or faint on most days. It would be nice to have a better option east of Mason City and north of Charles City.

Yeah, they cover Mason City well, but the further east of there you go, the less it comes in. I have heard that there is a major shake-up in the ownership of radio stations in the Mason City/Charles City general area, so maybe some help will arrive before too long.

Yeah, Dubuque gets nothing Cyclones as far as radio. 101.1 FM used to pick up the Cyclone Radio Network, but they dropped it once it went to either satellite or internet (I canít remember which one), because they felt they would lose listeners.

Extreme southern Minnesota is a Cyclone radio wasteland too. It would be nice to get a strong FM or AM station in northern Iowa to cover the Albert Lea/Austin/Rochester area. There are a lot of Cyclone alum up here.

Streaming coverage is nice, but not when you are driving or out doing yardwork or for the farmers, field work.

If you are within about 45 minutes of Hampton, you should be able to pick up 104.9. I assume they still carry the Clones.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Re: Cyclone radio coverage for north central Iowa

As a student I obviously don't have much trouble with this, but yeah this definitly sounds like something Pollard should hear about. After all he's trying to build and retain a fan base, better coverage would definitly help towards that. And with all the excitement around our teams right now, it ought to be something he can get negotiated in the next year or two (It may be a hard sell for a little while, but if anyone can pull it off, Pollard is the man)

Radio Coverage in eastern Iowa is BAD. Like '0". The quad Cities area has a potential listening audience ,within a 20 mile radius of Davenport,of over 500,000 alumni, fans, and potential athletes. Frankly ISU don't seem to give a damn!!

No coverage ,no $, from this alum!

Re: Cyclone radio coverage for north central Iowa

102.7 out of Northwood used to carry the Clones, and I grew up on that as a kid living in McIntire/Meyer area. My dad farms around the McIntire/Riceville area and he usually doesn't have too much trouble getting Cyclone games on 107.3 or AM when he's living in a combine all fall. I was home the weekend of the OU game this fall, and had no problem getting to come in on an AM station in a tractor working outside of Meyer.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
