    Security clearance for job

There is a job I'm looking into applying for that says must be able to obtain security clearance. What is involved with that?

I would expect fingerprinting, full background check, FBI investigation and rectal exam.

    Re: Security clearance for job

It depends how high the clearance.

I have a friend who is an FBI agent and another who was an Engineer on very sensitive military assets. They had very extensive background checks that went way back and involved interviews of a lot of people. They dig pretty deep, interview old roommates, teachers, family members, etc.

it may feel like a rectal exam but I doubt that is necessary.

This happened to my mom as well. One of her friends from college needed a security clearance and my mom was interviewed by the FBI.

    Re: Security clearance for job

I don't think it'd be that high of clearance, judicial system related.

I'll pass on the rectal though until I'm 50.

    Re: Security clearance for job

For Secret Security clearance it will be fingerprints, past 7 years living history, 3 interviewed friends and 3 interviewed work associates. In addition to a 20 page questionnaire.

For Top Secret Security clearance it will be all of the above plus far more extensive interviews, a personal one on one interview with a representative from the FBI (or CIA I can't recall) banking information, any known relatives or friends from other countries will be interviewed, you get the idea.

I received counseling for anxiety, I wonder if that would be an impediment.

    Re: Security clearance for job

I have gone through one that was pretty extensive. The best advice I was given is be brutally honest and don't hide anything. It is way better to admit any mistake you may have made in the past then not disclose it and have them find it.

In most cases this should not be a problem.

    Re: Security clearance for job

Counseling can be an issue for the higher levels (TS, SCI). That's where my experience is so I'm not entirely sure if Secret cares. But since you say judicial system, I'm thinking that's probably lower yet, just Confidential level?

Exactly. Better to be honest about your history than be surprised by being denied the clearance.

7 years' residential history is the norm, you'll need a non-family member as a contact for each residence. Plus job references and character references.

What the hell, let's go play 'em.
