Black Crowes @ Simon Estes 8/17

Just found out yesterday that the Crowes will be playing Simon Estes Ampitheatre in downtown DSM on August 17th. It's part of their 20th Anniversary Tour, and apparently they're taking a hiatus after this tour.

I went to the show last year and loved it! The Crowes are such a good live band, and they've just kept putting out good albums over the years. I'm really excited for this show, and there's pretty much NWIH I'm going to miss it. Should be awesome.

    Anyone else plan on going?

I love how Des Moines has really pulled in some big/great acts these past two years. Last year was awesome and this year is shaping up to be even better.

I agree. The Crowes love the DSM crowds, too. They've probably played here 3 times in the last 4 years. And if anyone thinks they're a washed up 90's band, I'd recommend checking out their last couple of albums.

I really dig the atmosphere at Simon Estes. I saw Carolina Liar there last year and it was just awesome.

Might as well...My goal this summer is to spend as much money on concerts as possible in order to reward myself for a successful college graduation. Because I earned it damnit.

What surprised me is how tiny it looks when you walk or drive by, but it easily holds a couple thousand.

I'm really glad that it continues to get more and more use. Probably my favorite venue in Central Iowa.

What's the spread? I'd take Estes straight up, but if the Black Crowes are given at least 5.5 points then I might pick them.

I'll take Western Gateway Park for 80/35

Can't really disagree here. Nice, sunny, warm day with drink in hand and great music between two bridges that cross over a big body of water. Can't really get a whole lot better than that.

I saw some great shows there when I lived in the area. Would be a great venue for DBT or REK.
