    Wild night for Stinson

I went to the Energy game last night, and it was a good one. Nurse T'd up early in the game, exciting up-and-down action, but by far the most entertaining thing was the sequence of events for Curtis Stinson in the 4th Quarter.

The Energy were down in the 4th and Stinson started taking over, driving to the hoop and tossing in floaters or dishing for open shots. Then, with a few minutes to go, after a timeout with the ball not in play, Stinson is standing just on his side of the half court line waiting for Tulsa to come out of the timeout and inbound, when he just pukes. Blew chunks everywhere. He got his hand up and it just kind of went all over...his jersey, hands, shorts and floor between half court and the top of the key. Nobody on the court really seemed to notice and seconds after he ralphed Tulsa inbounds the ball and brings it up the court, while Stinson is running over to the bench and trying to grab a towel to clean himself up. Tulsa takes it to the hoop and either makes a shot or tosses it out of bounds quickly and it is Energy ball. The refs and players notice the yak and stop play, Stinson sprints back to the locker room, emerges seconds later with a new jersey and is ready to go. Play was stopped while everyone decided who drew the short straw and got to clean up Stinson's dinner. After a few minutes and a good mop play starts back up, Stinson immediately brings the ball up the court, goes right to the rim and sinks a layup. It was something else.

A few plays later the refs called a blocking foul on the Energy, Stinson argued during the free throws, got tossed and had to be restrained from physically going after the ref.

He finished his wild night with 32 points and 11 assists.

That is the definition of A Basketball Player!

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

    Re: Wild night for Stinson

I was at the game as well with my dad, but we had no idea that Stinson puked. We saw Stinson cleaning himself up with a towel, but just assumed that he had been bleeding. The best was Stinson getting ejected, in true Stinson fashion!

Neither my dad nor I follow the NBA much, so we were a little confused on a few rules. It seemed that fouls are started over each quarter instead of each half, is this correct? It also seemed that each foul shot was two, is this also correct?

Wow. You run in a tough circle. I loved Stinson, as did most of my Cyclone friends. Outside of the lack of a consistent 3 pointer, there was nothing to complain about. His bread & butter is not hoisting up long shots.

People ******* about Stinson? Maybe my memory is bad, I don't remember anyone complaining about him. I remember thinkign the team played no defense his senior year, but I don't remember anyone complaining about Curtis. Great player.

It is bad. Most abused ISU player on message boards I can remember. Easily my favorite ISU BBall player.

Absolutely. Other than the occasional bad 3 which he should have let Blalock take, Stinson was amazing.

    15 foot floater ftw.

    Re: Wild night for Stinson

Wonder if Stinson will get a look on an NBA roster next year. Seems like he plays real well in the D-League, and I can't imagine a team wouldn't want a tough guard like him to come off the bench for a few minutes a game.

    Re: Wild night for Stinson

Stinson was the type of player that you had to take the good with the bad. He had the ability to take the game over on his own which was a blessing and a curse at the same time. He was a great player but he was hardwired to try and do as much as he could on his own. While he was often successful I remember some games like a game at Nebraska in which he tried to take over down the stretch in a close game and took what seemed like ISU's last 10 shots of which he made 1 or 2 in a loss. I am sure that game in particular is a game that brought him some criticism.
