Re: Is Phil Jackson a good coach?

To be in it for as long as he has been and to be as successful as he has been, I would say that he is pretty darn good at both. That and he has had some great players...that helps a little

The Championships speak for themselves. I just think don't think that he could take an average team and make them better, or a good team and make them contenders, ala Larry Brown!

Re: Is Phil Jackson a good coach?

Honestly, I still think his best coaching job was the 1993-1994 Bulls team. Won like 54 games without Jordan and was very close to advancing past the Knicks which would have meant a possible title shot that year.

I think that he is both great at managing egos and a great coach. They dont hand out 10 championship rings for being a people person. You can say that he has always had a great player or 2 to lead his team, which is true. However, he also has done a fantastic job coaching those players. Phils teams have usually ran the Triangle. The reason for this is that it takes the focus off of a star player and gets everyone involved in the offense so that the d cant focus on just one player. His ability to adampt schemes to players and teach the game is obvious.

You can have Larry Brown and Jerry Sloan, you would have 50 years of NBA coaching and exactly 1 NBA championship. And its not like they were coaching crap players, I am pretty sure Sloan had the one of the best PF and PG of all time on his team at the same time.

As a Knicks fan, I couldn't stand the man in the 90's but you have to respect him for the wins and championships.

That is such a stupid argument. Give me the last team to win a championship without at least one star. You cannot do it because you need a star to win.

Dude has what, 9 or 10 rings. The triangle offense has no answer. He is a great coach. Possibly the greatest to ever do it in the NBA.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Good post. Nobody wins without a high-powered star, and nobody repeats (especially his triple threepeat combination) without legendary-type players that he and his staff coach and challenge to maximize their abilities. He must have their respect somewhere along the way if Kobe and Michael followed him.

As a manager of egos, I don't see anybody being effective in the NBA without this skill.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I think the results speak for themselves, NBA All-stars on his roster or not.

I frankly don't care for the man personally. His smugness is off the charts.

Re: Is Phil Jackson a good coach?

In the NBA, managing egos is what makes you a good coach.

Kobe, Shaq, MJ, and Scottie wouldn't want to sit around and listen to Larry Brown talk about squaring up to shoot or whatever. Some teams need it (including my team the T'Wolves), but great teams only need a coach like Phil.

Ask anybody who has coached the game. You cannot win without great players.
