    Hawaii-The big Island

Planning a trip with the lady to Hawaii. Gonna spend most of the time in Maui, but we are going to jump over to the Big Island for a couple days before we come home. Haven't been to the Big Island before and was wondering if anyone has some input on the must do? My research shows the Nat'l Park, the ranch, and the black sand beaches are some of the top attractions. Since I only have two days, what is the must see? Thanks for the help fanatics.

Black sand beaches were neat, but I enjoyed the volcano the most. Especially if you can see lava, very cool. Actually, you can swing by the black sand beach and hit up the park in the same day if you leave early enough

    Re: Hawaii-The big Island

Plan on a full day(or 2 even) at Volcanoes National park, some good hikes to be had. If your up to it and are relatively fortunate enough to have the lava flowing when your out there, a hike closer to the floes is a pretty amazing experience. Just make sure if you do so to bring plenty of water, good shoes, jeans are a good bet(falling on lava rock cuts you up good), and a flashlight/s(best views in evening).

Macadamia nut factory tour was fun, Mauna Kea star viewing is a treat as well and finally I know the golfers in my family loved some of the courses on the island.

My choice would be South Point - the southern most spot in the US. And also the Green Sand Beach which is near by.

If you are planning a full day of it when headed for Volcanoes National, go just north of Hilo to Akaka Falls...huge, beautiful falls that is well worth.

If you are looking for night activity and are scuba certified, the night Manta Ray dive that leaves from Kona is also incredible...beautiful creatures that come within inches of your head eating plankton that accumulate above your light.

As for Maui...I would strongly suggest buyig a book called "Maui Revealed." It tells of all sorts of places that you will never see in publications and flyers out there. Where are you staying on Maui?
