    Stranded in Portugal

    Well due to the Volcano, I'm stranded in Portugal on a business trip and the earliest I can get back to Iowa is on Tuesday. So I basically have 4 days of fully paid for European vacation. Anyone have any suggestions of things to do/see in this part of the world? I'm in Lisbon now, but I could get on the train and go anywhere in Portugal or even into Spain or southern France. I figure the volcano has given me a once in a lifetime opportunity...might as well take advantage of it.

    Also make sure you hit up The Monument des Poissonieres.

    It's a monument to all the local fishermen who were lost at sea.

    Frommer's says it's supposed to be..."quite moving."

    Take a day and go to Rome. Not sure if a ferry or boat trip there is possible but a very historic city to see.
    I know a lady that was supposed to be home yesterday from Holland and now home at the earliest Tuesday.

    I'd head to the beach. Or to Spain.

    I spent a summer in a place called Arcachon, west of Bourdeaux in southern france. There's a good casino there. it's a beach resort town. near there you can go to the dune de pila, which is a pretty crazy sand dune ([ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14PfJKKs7So]YouTube - Dune de Pila[/ame]). Otherwise you can get to Nice which is pretty nice too.
