    Stranded in Portugal

Well due to the Volcano, I'm stranded in Portugal on a business trip and the earliest I can get back to Iowa is on Tuesday. So I basically have 4 days of fully paid for European vacation. Anyone have any suggestions of things to do/see in this part of the world? I'm in Lisbon now, but I could get on the train and go anywhere in Portugal or even into Spain or southern France. I figure the volcano has given me a once in a lifetime opportunity...might as well take advantage of it.

Ohhhhh, nevermind on the spring break hook-up. Euro-Disneyland might be a safer bet.

Also make sure you hit up The Monument des Poissonieres.

It's a monument to all the local fishermen who were lost at sea.

    Frommer's says it's supposed to be..."quite moving."

Take a day and go to Rome. Not sure if a ferry or boat trip there is possible but a very historic city to see.
I know a lady that was supposed to be home yesterday from Holland and now home at the earliest Tuesday.

Man----that would be so darn fun. I'm guessing you are also on per diem from your job.

I'd head to the beach. Or to Spain.

I'll be pulling for an extra day or two for you :)

    Re: Stranded in Portugal

I spent a summer in a place called Arcachon, west of Bourdeaux in southern france. There's a good casino there. it's a beach resort town. near there you can go to the dune de pila, which is a pretty crazy sand dune ([ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14PfJKKs7So]YouTube - Dune de Pila[/ame]). Otherwise you can get to Nice which is pretty nice too.
