    Ipod touch vs Zune HD

So I am in the market but know nothing about MP3 players.

I'd like to be trendy and go with the Ipod, but the Zune looks to be superior tech-wise (and less expensive). I have always heard that Apple is a marketing company first and a technology company second. This is why I might be leaning toward the Zune.

I would like to purchase a device with a lot of utility. Being able to record long lectures and organize my life on the device would really add to the investment. Is the Ipod nano the only device that records audio or video?

If I can get suggestions anywhere it has to be this board.

    Thanks in advance.

My advice is go to a store that sells both and test them both out. See what you like better/

Re: Ipod touch vs Zune HD

I'm biased because I love my Zune HD and the software.

That said, it's a wonderful media player. You won't regret a thing.

I have no opinion of the Ipod because I've never used the player itself but my experience with Itunes is miserable compared to Zune.

I could have added that I love my ZuneHD, and my Zune80, and my Zune30, and my ZunePass.

Does the Zune HD have a microphone for recording audio? The only device I am aware of with that capability is the Ipod Nano, which I feel would produce low quality sound and video.

In the market as well. Are there differences in download prices for music, tv, and movies between the two?

I am getting a touch because there is an XM app for it.

Re: Ipod touch vs Zune HD

Just bought the 8GB Nano (5th Gen) last week. Actually not to expensive, $125 on Amazon, free shipping. It has some nice features, takes video, pictures, and also has FM Radio (great to hear the away games on). I bought a velcro arm band to run with at Wal-Mart for $10, works great. I think it was the best fit for me. The only drawback I can think of for the Nano are the headphones that come with it. They are so cheap, it's sad.

Really? That would make my decision. Any extra fee for it?

Re: Ipod touch vs Zune HD

I am in the same boat, in the market. I've been thinking that zune is what I really want to do, but haven't pulled the trigger, because I'm not sure that the options for accessories/applications will be as robust. does zune have an underwater/swim setup to listen while doing laps. I know Ipod does, but it isn't cheap.

Also, is there a zune touch. Can't go back to non touch screens. also hoping for more input.

Nano videos aren't that bad, if I can figure out how I will load one to youtube and share it here for you to see.

Are you able to transfer songs bought on ITunes to the Zune software?

Re: Ipod touch vs Zune HD

Zune or Ipod? A really big question. I would recomend going to a store(probably bestbuy, because their employees are friendly, and knowledgeable about what they sell, albeit a little too enthusiastic when trying to sell, but hey its their job).

What I can talk about is the Zune pass. If you get a zune you have to download the zune program to get music onto the zune. You can get a subscription to zune for $15 a month that gives you unlimited downloads. You are given 10 credits a month to download songs that will be yours even after you discontinue your subscription. When, and if you cancel your subscription you will lose all music that you did not buy with the 10 monthly credits.

This is my favorite part of having a Zune, a safe, legal way to download almost all the music I want. The reason I say almost is because some artists do not license their songs to zune. Mostly big names like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin.
