    Hike-in Camping in Iowa

    I've tried looking for some good hike-in camping places in Iowa. So far, the only state park I can find is Preparation Canyon (hehe). Does anybody know of any other good places, or if Preparation is any good (lol)?

    I seem to remember that Backbone has hike in...


    As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

    Ledges has 'hike in'

    I dont know if Backbone does or not. Their two main camgrounds do not really have any.

    Try the Yellow River State Forest in NE Iowa, by Harper's Ferry. I know they have a trail that has two campgrounds on it only accessible by foot.

    Yellow River is the only true hike in camping in Iowa, in my opinion. Still there are several entrances, so you might have hiked in 6 miles to get to a site, another party might have only hiked in 1 mile from another entrance. I've never like that. I've always liked to know that anyone camping near me had to do the same amount of work to get to where I'm camping.

    Otherwise, to go to MN or WI.
