    Fennelly Encouragement

Just a quick request that we ought to drop BF a quick note/email of encouragement.

Don't want this to get sidetracked into a GMac thread, but most of us probably saw the JP letter that tried to link GMac's player defection issues with BF.

Personally, I thought it was kind of low to use BF as cover for GM. But whether you agree or disagree, never a bad idea to remind our players and coaches that we support them.

BF is very accessible through email and Twitter. Drop him and girls a note!!

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

I didn't much like Pollard's letter, but I really don't think it was a strike at BF. He was just pointing out that transfers are a problem that they're trying to deal with in more places than MBB. And that one of those places is in our successful WBB program, so the fact that MBB has been losing does not completely explain the problem.

I think people are blowing that portion of the letter out of proportion. Frankly, BF should be concerned (and I'm sure he is working on the issue) about the fact that he lost an entire recruiting class within two years.

Fennelly was not a Pollard hire. He will never get the same respect from Pollard as his own hires will get.

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

There is a lot of talk that women's basketball needs to be more like the men's game, more physical, fascination with players that can dunk, etc. Well, this is a part of the men's game that we'd rather not see but that is going to come along. I personally think Pollard is pretty close in his letter. Look at the lists of of transfers and tell me it is the coaches' fault everywhere.

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

I don't think the letter was an attack on BF, more of a case of using an example of even a sucessful program that we all know has transfer issues. The transfers for BF are very hard to explain, especially gals like WW who would have probably started next year.

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

I thought the BF transfers were easy to explain, except WW.

    Yackley - recruiting miss
    Rockall - recruiting miss
    Arlen - Fear of Flying
    WW - ??

Compare 4 year numbers with Gmac and see how that stacks up. Just crap that JP put that in his letter!

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

I already emailed Coach Fennelly right after the season thanking the players and coaches. He got right back to me letting me know that he would make sure that they got the good wishes.

I don't think that JP threw coach under the bus in his letter. Frankly on this very board we saw people saying that they thought BF needed to change his approach due to the defections. I was willing to cut him some slack, but obviously they are analyzing the sitiuation with both programs.

The truth is no matter what BF, GM or JP say or do, there are going to be people out there (and in here) who think it is, not enough, too much or the wrong direction. They have to do what they think is right and try to fix the problems where they see them. Let all of the arm chair coaches and administrators take care of themselves.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

    Re: Fennelly Encouragement

I'm confused by JP's letter. It says "women have now lost all four of their recruits from last year". Does that mean the 2010-2011 in-coming class or the 2009-2010 class? What 4 specific players is he referring to? Thanks in advance for anyone that can clear this up.

as much as I don't think the defections of the WBB team are the level of the men's, I was quite concerned about the loss of Williams.
