    Serious Question about Whining

I'm not trying to single anybody out but I had a question.

Do some of you use the boards as a place to vent and complain or do some of you actually carry over some of your whining and hostility to your personal life? Whining has always been a pet peeve of mine so the boards are pretty intolerable to read. Is everyone just relieving their frustrations or is that just how you normally react when life doesn't go your way? Maybe it's a generational thing.

Don't get me wrong, our MBB program is a mess but I don't see how anonomous complaining and whining on a message board is going to make it better. I just try to put the bad news behind me, move on and hope for the best. It's really out of my hands so I don't see the point of being miserable.

Feel free to close this thread if it's too incindiary.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

I think this site is a combination of frustration and boredom. People are upset about the basketball program, and when they vent their opinions and are opposed by someone else, they find a way to pass time.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

Also, I wouldn't characterize anyone's behavior was whining. Whining is what a child does when they have to eat their peas, or when its time to go to bed. Being vocal about something you are passionate about is not whining.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

Plus, about half of these posts are just random crap, for us to pass time instead of you know, work, or pay attention in class.

I would argue "whining" or debating sports such as our MBB program is still more useful than most politics or religion boards out there because usually we aren't as deep about our convictions on sports, so there's at least some give and take there... someone on the other side of our argument can help us understand their perspective and bring us towards the middle.

Ever since you have had to work, you've been using at least 50 cent words on a semi-regular basis. I feel like I hardly know ye.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

I agree with the post for the most part but would say it's okay to ***** and whine for maybe max of a day past that it's just annoying and needs to be gotten rid of. To me it just gets really old when there are 80 different threads whining and complaining about one thing, at least lump them all together I don't care if it's super long it would make the site much better imo. That and I think more needs to be done in terms of keeping posts in a thread on topic. Okay now you can start ripping me.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

Once football season starts, most of these basket ball threads will go away. It's just unfortunate that the last major sport to end was basketball and the next major sport to start is football. About a 6 months in between of nothing.

+1, when you are a fan and put $$$ into the program, you can whine.

Being blocked doesn't fix downs. Just broadens the horizons.

    Re: Serious Question about Whining

I understand the frustration, and I don't disagree. But I also realize that message boards are places where people come to vent, so I expect a fair amount of venting and pessimism.

What I find extremely tiresome are the posters who have to go into every thread or start new threads of various incarnations of the same arguments over and over as if something would magically change. I make the choice to read those, though, and either shake my head, roll my eyes, or, if I'm feeling feisty, call them out. If it makes them feel better to ***** for the sake of ********, so be it.

In the end, it's just the internet.

I think he got a word-of-the-day calendar, personally... Next you know he'll be using plethora or rambunctious. Maybe even pedantic!

    Love you _jer.

Being on CF sometimes makes me feel a lot smarter-er.
