Three reasons to support the Men's basketball program

Three reasons you should give 100% support to the Men's basketball program next year.

    1. Diante Garrett. This man has given 100% effort for Iowa State the past three years. He hasn't been the most talented point guard in ISU history, but he's stuck with the program, the coach, whatever teammates he has had and has never complained. He goes to each game and gives it his best shot and has shown flashes he can be a great facilitator of the team. This is his senior year, and I think he deserves our support.

    2. Scott Christopherson. He has played his guts out for Coach Mac (and us fans) while having mono. He showed a lot of improvement and at the end of the year was starting to strike to the basket more and hit more 3s. Between his commitment and the fact that he was improving desipte having mono, he deserves our support.

    3. Charles Boozer. Need I say more? This guy has sacrificed his body for this program. His hustle inspires his teammates and he as well has stuck it out with the program. It can't be easy for these guys to show up and go to work knowing that there are players coming and going, fans aren't happy, and their coach is getting closer to the hot seat.

To those who are not in support of the coach OR the program, I ask that you put aside your distaste and give 100% support to these players that are giving 100% to the school we all love. These three players aren't quitting on us, so lets not quit on them.

Not to question their effort or heart, but what you just posted is a large part of the problem.

None of those guys are starting caliber for a winning Big12 basketball team.

So we are only going to support players that are big 12 caliber? By your logic we should show more support to guys like Shawn Taggart than a guy like Diante Garrett.

I just think people should support the kids even if they don't like the coach.

Sadly that's the minority around here anymore. I always figured you should support the guys that wear your school colors. Yes, I want to win more, and if McD doesn't get the job done next year and there is a coaching change, then I'll support the new guy just as much.

Re: Three reasons to support the Men's basketball program

There is a fine line somewhere between supporting a program and cheering like hell for the program. I haven't traveled to Ames for two years to go to a basketball game because I just don't feel like making the drive. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. That being said, I didn't miss a game all year. Myself and a couple other Iowa State fans would meet at a bar in Omaha for every Wednesday game and cheer like mad. I'd rather spend $50 eating and drinking at a local bar than drive 3 hours to Ames...watch horrible basketball...then drive 3 hours back.

I like and agree with your thinking, you have to support the kids that are here. None of this is their fault, and all they guys you mentioned have busted their butt for ISU and will continue to do so.

The problem is that they should be great role players on our squad, not relied upon to start and play nearly 40 minutes a game. I will support the players, but I still can't wrap me head around what in the world is going on in the program. I don't have the "amnesia" that some do and say we have an elite tradition. We don't. We do have a competitive tradition though. Right now, we are not. Next year, on paper not even close.

I don't have a problem with you trying to stay positive though. I wish I still could.

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

I'll support every player left on the team. I expect very little to cheer about though.

I'll always support the program. I will leave to JP to decide the best for Iowa State. I am sure he knows the best and in the case of JP doesn't know the best for ISU, I believe Dr. Geoffroy knows.

I'll support the mens basketball program and always push for the best possible things to happen to it. The best possible thing that could happen to it right now? GMac's tenure ending. Supporting GMac does not necessarily = supporting the program.

Re: Three reasons to support the Men's basketball program

I honestly think that if Scotty allready wasn't a transfer, if Boozer wasn't a senior, and if DG wasn't a senior, they would be gone too.
I'll cheer for them, but the circumstances for them staying could also have been because they pretty much have no other options now.
