Also released.....no more pointing to the sky, kneeling down in the endzone, or saying I Love You Mom to the cameras.

Curious that the NCAA waited until AFTER Tim Teabag used up his eligibility to do this. Afraid of an anti-Christian tag on the move?

I guess it says a lot that I immediately thought of him before I even read the article.

Agreed. For anyone that watched the Georgia vs. LSU game last year you would know how badly this rule will screw with the outcome of the game. Then again... if you leave anything up to the discretion of the "great minds" at the NCAA it will surely ruin the sport. (ie.. the new taunting rules and NCAA tourney expansion) Yikes.

Remember "excessive celebration"? In 1999 ISU got flagged for excessive celebration (a weak call, their celebrations that day were no worse than Tejas') after an exciting 59 yard bomb at the end of the second quarter and had to kick the PAT from the 18 rather than the 3 on a blustery day. The 25 yard PAT into the wind just missed. In the fourth quarter, ISU scored back to back TD's to tie the game at 41.

Now instead of driving from behind with the added pressure and needing to preserve clock if unsuccessful scoring, Texas was able to take their time, burn the clock with nothing to lose. Their kicker hit a game winning field goal as time expired.

I always thought that lame penalty took a score off the board.

I was at that game. I don't remember that call but it sounds typical. I remember that final drive when Texas had the ball and I remember thinking to myself.... "Game Over".

New High Stepping, Taunting Rule Will Cost You Points!!

New NCAA football rules have been released. No "wedge blocking" on kickoffs, no "high-stepping" into the endzone and no "taunting" the opponent with the football. Penalty will be assessed from the spot of the foul and points removed from the board. NCAA institutes three football rule changes - CFB News - FOX Sports on MSN

I bet $10 we lose a game because of this next year.

Re: New High Stepping, Taunting Rule Will Cost You Points!!

Taunting has caused an annual debate among college football players, coaches and fans, and last season's big controversy stemmed from Georgia receiver A.J. Green receiving a 15-year personal foul penalty after he caught a go-ahead touchdown pass late in a game against LSU.
    Harsh!

Re: New High Stepping, Taunting Rule Will Cost You Points!!

I like players who are classy and sit the ball down, but I do not like the attempt to enforce class. If a player goes in for the go ahead score, I expect them to be excited. Hopefully it will only be enforced on extreme showboating, but the celebration penalty certainly gets enforced too often already.
