Cubs can add payroll if needed

Cubs owner Tom Ricketts said Monday morning during a radio interview that the team can afford to add a player.
Chicago's $144 million payroll is the highest in the National League.
Ricketts said there is some wiggle room for general manager Jim Hendry if a player were needed to fill an important role or injury dictated replacing a player.

Re: Cubs can add payroll if needed

I saw the Cubs now have some of the highest priced tickets in the Major League, so makes sense they can do this. It's not like they're paying for a new ball park.

It's time they start doing something with that payroll.

Good, I was concerned the Mets might dethrone the kings of doing the least with the biggest payroll

Little early for the birds to be crowing.

That should be about the only thing they need. Colvin is good in left, Fontenot is soon going to be in his rightful spot on the bench, and the starting pitching has been fantastic.

The only issue is finding someone who fits the bill.

Exactly. We'd better go after a guy that can give us 1-2 solid innings.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I am still holding out hope that Starlin Castro can move up to the bigs this season and move Theriot to second.

Wasn't able to watch today but followed the game some on the gamecast.

Several positives...we hit the ball, moved some runners around (even stole bases) and scored runs on something other than solo homeruns. The starting rotation has been rock solid with the exception of Big Z's opening day.

Get a decent middle relief guy and someone get Soriano to catch a fly ball and I can see things going well.

While the HRs were nice today, I was glad to see the guys hit for average today too. It seemed like in the first few games everyone wanted to swing for the fences. I honestly think we see Colvin as our everyday left-fielder by the all-star break. I think Lou likes him, and likes his glove out there...and Soriano is garbage.

I know it goes against Lou's philosophy, but I think they are going to have to ride starting pitching as long as they can. I know this gives Cubs fans bad memories of the Dusty Baker days, but there is no one you can hand the ball to in the 6th, 7th or 8th and feel good about your chances.

I agree that I would love to see Castro moved up to short with Theriot moving to 2nd, but if it doesn't happen Baker is serviceable at 2nd.
