Revised Campustown transit hub: no Cy-Ride

The "revised" plans for the transit hub on the west side of Campustown will not house Cy-Ride, nor have any Cy-Ride stops, nor any retail space...

Re: Revised Campustown transit hub: no Cy-Ride

What's the point? Why would the city put all that money into creating a hub for Jefferson and Burlington Lines? It doesn't make sense. If this is the case, why have it in campustown? Why not just put it in a less congested area that would have cheaper land? No one is going to walk to the transit hub to get onto an out of town bus.

But this does provide parking for the new rec they're building attached to state gym.

Way to go Ames. I'm ashamed that there is a planning program in that town. And a transportation reserch center...

Isn't this on Hayward? Not really close enough to help that much. Even if you were to walk through the Friley it still would be quite a distance to be taken seriously as a parking option.

It reads like the changes are a result of the lack of funding instead of a bait and switch...or did I miss it all together?

Lack of funding to do the whole thing. They're going to keep applying for grants from here on out, what they start now will be getting the project started. Sounds like they're leaving CyRide off because it'll be easier to get money if they say it is needed for CyRide.

This is a good start, but I think they plan on eventually completing the entire project in the future.

Re: Revised Campustown transit hub: no Cy-Ride

Just to remind people, parking is a (you-know-what) on/around campus. A parking garage is better than no parking garage. I still think they should move the 6 Brown route a block west onto Hayward so it'll go past the new garage instead of going down Welch.

Wonder how much it will cost to park in the ramp. Would be nice if it was free on Friday nights + weekends like in Des Moines. Maybe cut down on the number of student DUIs as well. I remember it always being a pain if I had to find a place I coud safely leave my car overnight in campus town.
