    2011 Ncaa tourne bracket projection

    By Dave Ommen
Yes, itís ridiculous to project an NCAA tournament bracket for 2011 on the very day the current season crowns its champion. But since when has projecting brackets ever been exactly sane? Itís all about fun, right? So letís have a little.
Now, keep in mind, we have yet to learn the status of several college athletes. Some we know have declared early for the NBA Draft; others are waiting until mid-April. We feel confident that some will go. Others havenít hired agents, yet. So as you look at how the 2011 field of 65 might look, remember that at this point itís a balancing act between what we know, what we donít, and what we anticipate. Then thereís also those incoming freshman, many of who have yet to sign.
Couple of quick notes Ö the NCAA has renamed a couple of regions for 2011. We will have the East (Newark), Southeast (New Orleans), Southwest (San Antonio), and West (Anaheim). As to potential NCAA expansion, thatís a topic for another day. Until we know otherwise, letís stick with what works. So a 65-team projection it is. As usual, teams listed in CAPS are projected league champions unless a school typically goes by an abbreviation (BYU, UCLA, etc).
Continue here to see our very early 2011 NCAA Bracket Projection (based on 65 teams):

NOTES on the BRACKET: Purdue is the No. 1 overall seed Ė followed by Duke, Michigan State and Kansas. It would be Southeast vs. West | East vs. Southwest.

That and its not the 96 team field. I would venture to guess that UNI will not miss the tourney next year.

Bah, this is BS. We all know Iowa and Iowa State will be meeting in the Championship game, and they're not even on the list!

Texas won't get a 14. THey don't give BCS teams much lower than a 12 anymore. Unless you're 5-25 and win your conference tourney somehow.

Re: 2011 Ncaa tourne bracket projection

Possible future fate with a ten win season:

Iowa won 10 games last year and finished 210 in realtimerpi.com.

We would not qualify for a tournament. That would take at least 16 wins in a 96 team field.

RealTimeRPI.com Men's College Basketball Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Ratings - A leading sports ratings and resources community on the Internet

If the wheels totally fall off and we win only five, looking like 280 out of 347 teams.

When the field is expanded to 96 teams and there's 24 teams in a region, a BCS team as a #14 seed would be extremely likely...

Re: 2011 Ncaa tourne bracket projection

is it a foregone conclusion that if the field goes to 96 that ESPN will have the rights?
