    Bali Satay closed?

SIAP: drove by this morning and noticed the Satay awning was gone and it appeared the place was empty. Did they close? Remodeling?

    Re: Bali Satay closed?

I had heard some time ago that they were closing. Not sure why or what is going to be in their place. There's more boarded up windows in Campus Town right now then post-VEISHEA 2004. Sad, really.

I thought the goal of Ames was to revitalize Campustown... Campustown is sucking....

    Re: Bali Satay closed?

I talked to the owners over Halloween bar crawl randomly... and they said that they had sold it to another set of asian owners, who are planning to turn it into a Korean nightclub/Korean Restaurant by day... sounds sketchy.

Another place for my fellow asians to hang out Friday night i guess (other than the library)

It wouldn't be the owners of the Scallion, would it? Two Korean restaurants in Campus Town seems like a bit much. Can we get some damn Ethiopian restaurants in Iowa??

Its the location of that Project 20/20 I believe, there are new owners, but its ran a lot by the students. Its a bar/club type of deal.

nah. the new owners were also there that night. I think they were recent grads of ISU, much younger than the scallion owners, I'd imagine.

I agree though, even though I've never had Ethiopian food, more variety would be great in Ames/DSM.

Yep. I've been there once on a Friday night.. I think for dead week my sophomore year. It was packed full of asians... the ones that usually judge me negatively for having too many white friends.

    Re: Bali Satay closed?

Okay, to answer all the questions:

Yes, the Bali Satay is closed. The owner had been looking to sell for over a year; he was tired of running a business.

The new business is Project 20/20. It's a restaurant, bar, and nightclub. It is owned an operated by two CURRENT Iowa State students; one of them is a very good friend of mine. They totally remodeled the place (and are still finishing a few minor things, like the awning); it looks great! The restaurant part kept almost all of the Bali Satay's menu, added a few new dishes, and significantly dropped the food prices. It's a mix of Chinese, Thai, and Korean, with a few American appetizers. The club has 18+ events and hosts concerts fairly often, but there's no more terrible local rock bands; it's mostly techno, hip-hop, electro, electronic, dance, and so on. They also have lots of theme nights that draw huge crowds.

It's a pretty good place. I've been there a few times and liked it. The food is awesome, and they have good drink specials most nights. They have a facebook group and a facebook page, if you want to check them out or see pictures.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Interesting. Does it serve lunch? What is the atmosphere like during the day? Is the restaurant side still physically divided from the "nightclub" side? It doesn't sound (from the name) like the kind of place I would bring an out of town guest to eat.

    Re: Bali Satay closed?

I checked out their FB page and promo video.. so what i'm getting is it's just Element v. 2.0? I guess if you like Element, you'd like Project 20/20...

Will have to check out the food though.
