    Steakhouses of Iowa

I was flying home from Kazistan to Des Moines and I grabbed the airline mag and looked for the rating of steakhouses I could go to that night. Alas, there was no Iowa steakhouse listing and I was lost as to where to go.

Can a CF fan help me out?

Rube's ftw. Seriously though. The main one in Montour is the best but that's probably not an option for you. There is another Rube's west of DM on I-80 at the Booneville/Adel exit, about 10 miles west of the western suburbs. Go there.

    Yeah TOAST!!!

Yep, Rubes. Go to Montour if possible.

IMO Rubes has went downhill the last 10 years or so. That Place in Conrad is the best around with unbelievably low prices.

Rubes is #1 on the list. Johnny's Italian Steakhouse is also pretty good. I recommend the Drunken Steak marinated in Sam Adams.

Just an FYI, Rubes has burger night on Monday nights (at least in Montour). $7 for one of the best burgers you'll ever have. Check it out sometime.

    Is that in Waukee?

What are the best side dishes they are known for? In NY I like asparagus and also the potatos and onion straws.

Montour is still really good. That Place is also very good. I had one of the best steaks ever at 801 Grand, but paid a good price for that steak.

Of course if you want to go high dollar, there is always Flemings or 801.

I had one of the best T-bones I've ever had at 801 last fall.

    Expensive...but worth it.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

    Re: Steakhouses of Iowa

Isn't Rubes a Grill-it-Yourself place? I don't see the point in paying $20 to drive somewhere and grill a steak, when I can go to the butcher, get a great cut of meat and grill on my porch. The beer is much cheaper at my porch.

If I go out for a steak, Iowa Beef, ftw.

    Re: Steakhouses of Iowa

Do they serve planked fish because the woman I work for won't eat anywhere (except breakfast) where they don't offer a planked whitefish. She is strange but she pays me well so I must work hard at finding a good restaurant with planked fish. The funny thing is, she seldom orders it. Its just a standard she holds me to.
