    Tougher team

    http://www.examiner.com/x-35712-Iowa...-football-team

Rhoads said overall his team is tougher than a year ago. "When I talk about being tougher, I mean mental toughness," he said. "Working through injuries, working through pain, staying focused.
“You can see we are a tougher football team. We are more physical. There was a lot of good contact on both sides of the ball.”

Could we have gotten more conservative against NU? We threw 10 passes and ran whats-his-name up the middle for 2 yards the rest of the game.

Oh yes we could have, we could have pulled a chiz, and run an option on 4th down to win the game...
Hey that drive towards the end of the game chewed 5-6 minutes off the clock which gave them little time to put a drive together.... the rest.... is history.

Still, we do need to be a tad thankful for all the gifts that NU gave us that day. (You won't catch me saying that to a Husker fan, though)

Conservative? I thought our executed plan of 8 turnovers was an agressive strategy to ensure 1 TD was enough!

You're right, we were extremely conservative. Remember, though, we were going into the lion's den with a backup quarterback and a backup tailback, both making their very first collegiate starts. And we got completely away from conservative when we did the fake punt immediately followed by a 40 yrd touchdown pass.

Of course, hindsight is always 20-20, but I thought the game was coached perfectly considering the rediculous disadvantage we were operating from.

    Re: Tougher team

"Another thing Rhoads likes is his team's speed. It's better, he said. "Were a faster football team. You can see the difference in our athleticism and in our speed. I think you can see it at all positions, and that's encouraging as we go forward."

Besides the toughness improvements, I'd say this is the biggest change that needs to be made for ISU in the future. Seeing us gain better overall team speed is what will get us to the next level. It's one thing that has held us back at ISU--when we play more athletic teams, it's obvious that our speed at every position has lacked in years past. This has to change if we are to make significant improvements. I'm glad to see CPR has noticed this change in his players.
