Hamilton: "I'm still trying to get closer to home"

For all the Justin Hamilton haters who've called him a liar - he made some comments to the DM Reg:

"It's just worked out that the schools that are looking at me the most aren't closer to home. I might not have any other choice"

"I'm still trying to get closer to home, but I don't know if it's going to happen."

BTW, he's talking with Virginia because Tony Bennett had recruited Ham while at Washington State, and LSU's Trent Johnson knew of him when Johnson was at Stanford.

Re: Hamilton: "I'm still trying to get closer to home"

This still doesn't mean he was completely honest when he said the reason for his transfer was to be closer to home. This just means it was only part of the problem. I think most people agree on the other part of the problem. Either way, he still ticks me off because the end result is the same.

why would you not have felt this out before transferring out, talk about not covering all your bases.

Because its not the *primary* issue, even if he does still hope to play closer to home as well?

Re: Hamilton: "I'm still trying to get closer to home"

I still believe that Hamilton displayed a lack of character by quitting rather than sharing whatever concerns that he had with the staff in an effort to work things out.

That said, I don't have an issue with the closer to home comment. If he did things by the book, he would have had to ask for his release first before contacting any other schools. After he obtained the release, he might not have received the amount of interest that he expected from his target schools closer to home.

I don't understand why you're trying to stick up for him. He committed four years of his life to play basketball for Iowa State and Iowa State committed to give him a free education. He broke that commitment.

Oh it was just his primary excuse...got it.

the flood of other transfers perhaps indicates a large issues in the program. maybe it is so bad there that Hamilton just didn't want to deal with it anymore.

By "flood of other transfers" do you mean our 3rd string PG? Since Ham has been here, what other significant players have left. It's not like he was there to see Wes transfer along with a bunch of others.

I know what you're trying to say, I think. But it's not like Ham sat there and watched player after player transfer and decided he better jump ship too.

He never said he was leaving because of the flood of transfers. I think he was pretty succinct.
