    Re: Landscaping question

I work for Country Landscapes (as do many other people on this forum--looking at you cyfan964!). Based out of Ames--both owners are ISU alums and supporters. We go all over the state. Give us a call at 1-800-794-9795.

    Country Landscapes, Inc.

PS: Ben (of Hawcott Lawn) used to work for us--good guy as well. His emphasis was on lawn care and maintenance, but now I believe he does some landscaping as well.

    Re: Landscaping question

Everything I've seen from Country Landscaping has involved some shoddy work and cutting corners on materials. Granted, the encounters I've had first hand have been from a different area of the state than Des Moines/Ames, that's what I know about them.

    Re: Landscaping question

How much landscaping are you talking? Unless this is a huge project I prefer to do those kinds of things myself to save some money plus I just like working outdoors.

Hawcott must be really busy, because they don't return e-mails from their website.

So....you're volunteering your time to assist the OP?

Landscaping isn't for everyone. Some people don't have an "eye" for it (just drive around a few neighborhoods and you can usually spot those lawns) while others just simply don't enjoy it. Others (like me) want someone to help plan and offer ideas, but I prefer to do most of the work myself. Finally, if a person is self employed or has a higher salary, they're actually financially better off in the long run if they can hire out manual labor tasks (e.g...lawncare, car maintinance, shirt laundry, etc.) if it allows them to use that time to devote to their business or their profession.

You need to call. The number goes directly to Ben/his voice mail. And, yeah, sometimes it does take a while to hear from them. Just call again and indicate your need and time limits.

So, in other words, customer service at Howcott sucks. If you happen to get customer service, don't expect much. Bet the actual service isn't much better than customer service as it usually goes hand in hand.

If you think that's what I meant, or wrote, you're wrong. Ben is very accommodating and I think his business is growing faster than he ever anticipated.
But, your understanding is up to you.
