    Laptop screen broken

Our laptop got hit and now the screen looks like broken glass. I'm I in the market for a new one or can this be repaired. It's a Dell and about one year old.

    Re: Laptop screen broken

It will probably be expensive to fix, if it's under one year it's probably still on warranty and may be covered.

    Re: Laptop screen broken

You will have to research how to put it back into the laptop, but I have seen replacement laptop screens on ebay for less then $100. I bought one of these monitors before for a different type of project for around $40 (1080P 15.4" screen), but basically they come with a cable you plug into the video controller board of your laptop. The back light and LCD screen are all one package, so it seems to me it would simply be unscrew the original screen if you can and put in the new one, reconnect the cables, and be on your way.

You generally can search for screens based off your current laptop model for a compatible match.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Laptop-15-I...#ht_500wt_1182

Thats one example. Google it, alot of others have been in your situation and made it work out.

    Here is one guide

    Re: Laptop screen broken

I've replaced a friend's Dell laptop screen before and it's definitely a doable at-home job if you're comfortable with some simple electronics disassembly/assembly. Ebay is a good place to get a decently priced replacement. I was able to find a service manual by googling for the model of the computer which had pretty detailed instructions about how to take it apart and replace the LCD screen. Otherwise, labor can be pretty pricey for doing this (I think it was going to be around $100 for labor when my friend looked into it).

    Re: Laptop screen broken

I paid $80 for a screen for my 1 month old toshiba. I'm not going to say how I broke it, other than it was a couple of years ago at the end of a Cyclone game in the good 'ole days when away games were still on TV.

Walking on water is easy. Just do it in December when it's frozen.

probably easier to replace the whole screen then the back light itself....I tried that once and got it to work but wouldnt do it again myself

    Re: Laptop screen broken

On a similar note, my laptop wont charge anymore. It is a problem with the connection between the chord and the computer. I looked at the port on the computer and the metal tabs that the electricity flows through are a little bent. What should I do?
