Harrison Barnes: The Eye of the Storm

Just to let you guys know there is a special show on KCCI channel 8 on monday night that takes you on an inside look of his senior season. It looks like they will show alot of the inside recruiting that took place showing the different coaches who showed up(saw coach K talking about him in the preview). Maybe this will help us out to understand why he didnt come here lol.

O rapturous joy! I was so pining for a bit more media coverage of this reclusive, unsung, "humble" young man.

I'm guessing there will be a reference at the end of the show allowing the adoring masses an opportunity to skype an order for authographed tshirts to HB.

I can tell you in two numbers why he didn't come here.

Wonder if he would have come to Ames if Wayne was the coach and played pell mell ball. Discuss and start the controversy....

Re: Harrison Barnes: The Eye of the Storm

Seriously, is there even a market for this? What is KCCI doing? I mean it would be one thing if he was going to one of the state schools, then there would be local interest, but this seems like, to me, overkill a little bit. Let the kid go to North Carolina and then on to the NBA and have his career. Be proud he is an Iowan sure, but don't put his recruitment, which we have all endured for years, under a microscope after its already finished, especially when he's leaving the state.

I would guess the exalted one is in favor of it. One cannot create a brand without plenty of media coverage. It is $$$$ down the road.

He was just voted MVP of the McDonald's All-American game and named National High School player of the year. HB is a pretty big deal, likely the number one pick on the 2011 NBA draft. It is too bad he didn't pick a state school but I don't think it diminishes how big of story it is. He will likely be one of the best athletes ever to come out of the state of Iowa.

Re: Harrison Barnes: The Eye of the Storm

    Com'on Man.

Can you really blame HB for leaving? Hell, ISU can't even keep the starters we have now on the team. GMac made this a very, very easy decision for HB to make. With a bad team and half the starters leaving what other choice did HB have?

It would have been great if he would have stayed, but HB probably figured GMac would have got the axe after the terrible year MBB had.

that and I don't care anything about the accomplishments of a high school athlete, especially one who isn't attending a team i follow. question is, is there really that little news in the state of Iowa at the moment that we need to have a 5 minute segment on the 10 o'clock news dedicated to a high school athlete?

Agreed. I think enough is enough.

Then again, i thought we'd had enough Shawn Johnson long before the register stopped having daily features on her, so maybe i'm wrong.

So you think that KCCI should not cover high school sports?

This will be "must-viewing" for me. Great behind-the-scenes video on a great kid. HB and Ames High comprised the top sports story in Iowa this past winter.
