    Projected Starters '10 - '11

    Here's what I am thinking:

    Colvin
    DG
    Phillips
    Dendy
    JVB

I actually think that lineup could be pretty tough to match up with. I would envision us using a drive and kick system. Our 3 guards would penetrate, then dish to Dendy for dunks, or back out to JVB for the 3. The other nice thing would be JVB would pull one of the other teams bigs out of the middle, opening things up more.

    Thoughts?

I'm excited of this happening. I'm not sure about the first three positions, but this would be my players for the 4 and 5 unless one of the new guys is the same as jvb but just more athletic.

I think we'd get killed on the boards with this lineup.

Whatever the lineup, if the tournament expands next year (I hate the thought) then the bar has been set. If he can't get us to a 96 team field then that should be it.
The composition of next year's team will be very interesting and could very well surprise. Especially if they play together as a team. Competitve to the point of making a joke of a tournament seems doable.

I think Dendy will be a beast on the glass next year, but we'll need our guards to rebound like Petey used to.

    Re: Projected Starters '10 - '11

I don't think a lot of people would really like this but as it's looking Baylor may be the only team with a really big front line and a lot more big 12 team are going to smaller guard heavy lineups. I really think that going a guard heavy with a trapping style would work well for what ISU will have next year. I will take a big change in the coaching style but for ISU to be any good next year that's what it will take. I really liked what west virginia has done with their 1-3-1 trapping zone in the tourney. Ejim could be very good at the top of that zone.

I think the starters could be
    colvin
    DG
    SC
    Phillips
    Dendy or JVB

    with the zone being
    DG
    SC Phillps Colvin
    Dendy/JVB

    Re: Projected Starters '10 - '11

Two things to me stick out.

    1. Colvin has got to really make that sophmore year leap. No more "I can see the potential"...he's got to produce like a Big 12 guard. Period.

    2. Phillips has got to be the gamer (scorer?) we all hope he is. Can he take the big shot at the end of the game?

I think the interesting thing with that line up is to do what North Dakota State did last year in running the high pick at the three point line. Use JVB as the pick, the big guy has to cover him or he shoots the three so that frees it up for the guard to drive. The only problem is that we need more three point shooters to do that so Christofferson would have to play more to do that and we will see how Colvin and Phillips do as three point shooters. Dendy is there for the dish and for clean up on the boards or can post up since it would be a clear out for him.

    Re: Projected Starters '10 - '11

we would struggle defensively at least man to man. we could throw a zone at them. I could maybe see a 1-3-1. Garrett has length to be the 1, colvin, and Phillips on the outside JVB in the middle and Dendy in the back. But we would get killed on the defensive boards. Unless Colvin can really get that knack for the ball and get in there, like stinson used to.

and we need dendy from the texas game in the big 12 tourny not the dendy fades in and out consciousness on the court and forgets to stay between the man and the hoop on defense.

For those mentioning playing zone, I think that is all well and good in theory, but I'm not sure McD knows how to teach the zone since he's always gone man-to-man in the past.

If you stand JVB at the three point line why would the other team guard him with a big guy? The honor system or something?
