    Lost Cat in Ames

Ok let's try this again... hopefully we can keep it on topic this time as the cat means a lot to me.

My cat of 6 years somehow snuck out of the house and is now missing. I've scoured the blocks around my house (I live on the corner of Storm and Ash St. (between Towers and Jack Trice)) for hours upon hours tonight looking for him to no avail. He is normally scared to death of the outdoors, so I find it odd that he got out, but he is definitely not in the house. He used to wear a collar, but itched at it so much I had to take it off. He's black and white and has a distinctive black dot on the tip of his nose.

I've often thought it was odd when people have lost a pet that they claim it is like losing a child, whelp... I can now say I know the feeling. If you hear anything about him message me at any time. I live around towers in Ames, so assuming he would stay close to home. The animal shelter has all the info, I just feel completely helpless and thought I'd at least try on here.

This is what he looks like:

    Thanks.

Good luck finding the cat, never easy missing a loved pet. Make sure to keep checking the animal rescue league.

Hope you find him. If he is scared of the outdoors, I'd bet he is hiding out of sight somewhere. If you spot him, be careful not to spook him or he might run.

    Re: Lost Cat in Ames

The hardest part about finding cats is they like to hide under porches and in other small or dark places. Maybe let the neighbors know about the lost cat as well as just looking for it, that way they can be on the lookout as well.

I talked to all my neighbors and put up a sign in my yard. Storm St. is an often used street for runners/joggers. Hopefully someone spots him. For now it seems I've done everything I can do.

Did you check the street drains? No way it could get back out of there...

Does he have a favorite toy or something that makes sound? I'd take that around the neighborhood and see if you can get a response.

    Re: Lost Cat in Ames

Oh man I feel for you. Keep your head up though he might come back or be close by. When I lived in Ames my roommate lost his girlfriends cat while she was gone on for the weekend. We looked for it for a day, couldnt find it anywhere. Than the next day we saw her just hanging out in the neighbors yard and got her back.

Is there anywhere she could hide around the house? Accidentally left my cat outside one night, she hid in a bush right by the side of the house.

Yeah... or if the cat happens to be the kind that likes the canned cat food, that pull tab sound (just click the tab against the top) might attract the cat.

    Re: Lost Cat in Ames

This may be a really stupid suggestion, but I'm throwing it out there since you said your cat isn't a fan of the outdoors.

Have you checked all your closets? My brother once shut his cat in the pantry for like 8 hours once because it snuck past his feet and onto the floor under the bottom shelf and he didn't see it. Opened it up to get some peanut butter and it went flying out.
