Randy P Blog: Hamilton may be headed a longer ways from home

Hamilton may be headed a longer ways from home | Des Moines Register Staff Blogs

Former Iowa State basketball player Justin Hamilton has visited Virginia, and soon will visit LSU.
And in case you forgot, here’s the statement he provided to the Iowa State media relations department when announcing his plan to transfer:
“I appreciate everything the Cyclone Nation has done for me,” Hamilton said. “The fan base, my teammates and the support of the community at ISU has been incredible, but I just feel I need to be at a school closer to home where my family will have a better opportunity to watch me play. I appreciate everything Coach McDermott and the coaching staff has done for me. They have helped me improve as a player and person.”
And in case you forgot, Hamilton is from Alpine, Utah.
Hamilton, a sophomore who started 31 games last season and averaged 6.4 points a game. He won’t return phone and e-mail messages. A recording said his parents’ phone in Utah has been disconnected.
So we’re left to wonder about this “I need to be at a school closer to home where my family will have a better opportunity to watch me play” statement.

Maybe his parents want to move to New Orleans, LA, or maybe Richmond so they can drive to games. His dad has bball past history. Guess his parents did not want to move to des moines.

We have already beaten this horse to death. What more is there to go over?

I'm guessing you have beat it to death with others based on 2nd hand info. Chris was just on Kxno stating that he hadn't heard any more on this front, as a good thing, however I saw this...so this adds to again, current facts.

I try to stay out of the speculation on bad news game, complaining, overreacting on hearsay and we are ISU pitty posts, which eliminates 99.5% of content on most days.

What may be new is his parents were ready to move and he is relocating to an area that they all agree upon. They could have moved to the Midwest but he is looking East, South, West instead. It might be a retirement home for them.

Re: Randy P Blog: Hamilton may be headed a longer ways from home

is there any way that we can block him from transfering to a school farther away from his home...this lying on Ham's part just really pisses me off, and he deserves to be kicked in the *** for his lying.

You guys assume Ham lied...did you ever think that he was told what to say for his release?

Home may be where his parents are or will be. I agree with the earlier poster that Ames might not have been there place of choice. Obviously they never looked at Ankeny!

This. He basically said that in order to help the coaching staff save face. It didn't work however.

Or just said the polite version?
I'm not willing to call a kid who was always decent by all accounts a liar.

Re: Randy P Blog: Hamilton may be headed a longer ways from home

I agree that there is a substantial probability that he may have been coached up a bit on what to say, and in the end Ham seems like a good kid that wouldn't want to throw his former coach under the bus.

He still lied. Either he did it on his own or the staff told him to do it. Doesn't matter.

Re: Randy P Blog: Hamilton may be headed a longer ways from home

Ham's parents aren't moving anywhere. What did everyone expect Ham to say? He could have been honest and said he wanted to go to a program that runs a system that will get him into post season play, but no one wants to tell the truth in this day and age and would rather be politcally correct. I don't blame him. If I was a post and had to watch CB throw up 10 off balance shots a game for the entire season I'd want out also.
