Good hire. Makes me long for the day when we hire a new coach of our own....

Re: Looks like Lavin to St. John's

definitely a good hire. A guy who has no ties to new york, hasn't coached in 7 years and had success at his last stop because he was at a national power school with a full cupboard when he stepped in. If St Johns is looking to continue their streak of not making the tournament then they made a fantastic hire.

145-78 record at UCLA, had to clean up the mess Harrick had. Still came into talent but he had helped recruit them as the top assitant. Has been involved in game as analyst and the Kids are going to no him from watching him on TV. I think it is a good hire for a sleeping giant in St. Johns

You under-estimate the power of TV.

Hopefully St. John's does him the courtesy of setting least 30% of his salary aside specifically for the purchase of hair oil.

So the guy who popularized the term "bunny" in regards to basketball is going back to coaching?

Lavin is going to have great success at St. John's...mark it down.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I agree here. The power of television. His exposure with ESPN will go hand-in-hand with his recruiting. This will be a big improvement with St. John's. I see them getting better.

Wish we had a new coach...uh, right now.

Me too. Lavin will have St. John's back in the NCAA before GM will have ISU back there.

Re: Looks like Lavin to St. John's

I would be very happy to have Lavin as a coach of my team. He is a very entertaining guy and im sure he can recruit with the best of them. Also he knows what it takes to win in big conference basketball.

Sounds like he is trying to put together a heck of a stuff also. They even mentoined Gene Keady as a possible assistant though i don't see that happening.
