    rumor Mizzou has candidate now

Hearing Robin Pingeton, head coach at Illinois St. is the leading candidate.

Player Bio: Robin Pingeton - ILLINOIS STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

2 NCAAs, 2 WNITs in six years.

Pedigree coaches coming to the big 12 with monster budgets are having a hard time in this league, got to think it will be tough road to hoe for a mid-major coach with marginal success with limited resources to offer recruits, small budget for recruiting, and small budget for assistant staff. My take - Mizzou will continue to be a bottom dweller.

Re: rumor Mizzou has candidate now

"Marginal success" is selling her short a bit.

    From the bio you linked:

When Robin Pingeton was named head coach at Illinois State in 2003, she took over a program that was struggling through a time that was not indicative of its successful past. The Redbirds had suffered six-straight losing seasons and had not made the postseason in seven years. Illinois State has a storied women's basketball history and Pingeton's pedigree as a coach made her the perfect fit to revive the women's program.

In her six seasons at Illinois State, Pingeton has not only brought the Redbird program back to the level of success it is used to, she has raised the bar to new heights. Pingeton and her staff have worked tirelessly to make Illinois State one of the most respected and noted programs in the Midwest. That work has more than paid off, as Illinois State has made four postseason appearances, won two State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament titles, two regular-season MVC titles and has had numerous student-athletes receive athletic and academic honors. She has amassed the second-most wins in school history and has led the Redbirds to three-straight 20-win seasons for just the second time ever.
I know Fennelly doesn't care to play against former assistants. I'm sure he wouldn't like going up against one twice per season.

She has to be too smart to take on a situation like that. Will the AD give her the resources they haven't had up till now? Seems doubtful. It's rare for proteges to join the same conference as their mentor, isn't it?

With budget cuts, is there going to be a migration from public universities to private ones?

you are probably right, MVC is usually one of the strongest mid-majors in WBB. They are doing well in the WNIT. It just seems to me a mountain to climb at Mizzou.

Guessing Mizzou has been asked not to make announcement until "ISU" is done in the WNIT.

Appears to be between Robin and Jeff Mittie at TCU. I think it would be a step down for Mittie. TCU is a consistent winner in the MWC and typically rated in the top 25. He beat A&M this year, and has beaten some big name schools in the past. I don't know if he really wants to rebuild the train wreck at MU. As for Robin, I have to wonder if this would be a good career move. Yes, it would be a raise, but does she want anoter rebuilding job? She took over ISU, a MVC program in the dumps, just have to wonder if she wants to do it again. Don't count Melissa McPherrin at Memphis out either, she is a MU grad, and her team just finished the season on Sunday in the WBI finals.

Some pretty good Big 12 players recently have come from Missouri (Heather Ezell, Danielle Adams, Tyra White, and Tanisha Smith just from the west side of the state). A coach that can recruit at home could turn it around rather quickly.

Good thing Mizzery doesn't look at the coach of a certain small school that nearly beat us in the NCAA second round.

If she waits for the "perfect" job, it might be a long time coming and the competition will be greater. Also, she has to look ahead at the MVC - how is her team going to do in the next few years. She can read the cards - get a long term contract knowing it will take time. She has the opportunity to recruit well in Illinois and Missouri. I think protege success helps Fennelly in the long run. When he next needs to hire an assistant, the success of Robin and Brenda might bode well.

Re: rumor Mizzou has candidate now

Robin's biggest problem - getting to the tourney. The last two years she has won the MVC going away, only to falter in the conference tourney. She has ended up in the WNIT. I would look for some possible coaching changes in the midwest in the next couple of years, especially in the B10. Borton at Minnesota has struggled since their final four appearance, and many boosters want a change, especially after this year. Illinois has not improved under Jolette Law, even with her great recruiting, and Wisconsin fans are ready to say good-bye to Lisa Stone. I think Robin will have her chances, but I don't think Mizzu is the one.
