    All time favorite band.

What is your all time favorite band, and what was your first experience with them? Mine would have to be Queen. The first time I really remember listening to Queen was when one of my older brothers had their greatest hits album and I listened to it when I was probably in 4th or 5th grade. My favorite song would have to be Tie Your Mother Down. Its just a fast driving song that not many people know about.

KISS. My "fave" aunt got me AliveII album for Christmas in 1977 when I was 7, and first show was the Dynasty tour when I was in 3rd grade, 10/10/79

For me, it's honestly a tie between

Led Zeppelin- first heard Zoso in high school and fell in love. Best song - When the Levee Breaks

Jimi Hendrix- Sophomore year in high school I bought "The Ultimate Experience" not really knowing what to expect. Jimi blew my mind. Best song - Red House

The Doors- My father was a big fan of the Doors, and I remember riding in the car with him when I was about 12, listening to Morrison Hotel. Best song - Maggie McGill

I would have to say I do love all of these bands as well but it comes in waves with them and I don't have any defining moments with any of these bands. But I can see how its really tough to pick one out of those three.

    Re: All time favorite band.

Such a difficult question. I like so many different types of music.

    I would have to say:

    Green Day
Citizen Cope (I know, not a band)
    STP

    Re: All time favorite band.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Been a Todd fan since he was with the Nazz. Have seen him solo and with Utopia dozens of times. Amazing performer and an underrated guitarist. Known as a wizard in the studio. Regarded as one of the best record producers of all time New York Dolls, Meat Loaf, Patti Smith Group, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, Hall and Oates, The Tubes, Badfinger, Cheap Trick to name a few. Also write software, Apples Utopia Graphics Tablet. Should be in the hall of fame.

    Re: All time favorite band.

I'd have to go with Queen too. I have a Queen poster hanging right above my computer monitor, in fact.

Green hills for thy throne, and for crown a golden melody/Ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty/Dear Alma Mater, make our spirits great
True and valiant like the bells of I-O-WA STATE!

And thank you Stumpy for this:

Actually, to me, specific albums can be more important than the band.

For example, I wouldn't necessarily list Pink Floyd as one of my top 5 favorite bands, but "Wish You Were Here" would be in my top 5 favorite albums.

Same thing with Sabbath's "Master of Reality."

    Re: All time favorite band.

Nirvana - I didn't know much about them until a few years after Kurt Cobain's death, but I loved their music. I probably got into them when I was in 5th or 6th grade, just about the time you really discover music and take it in as your own, for me that was Nirvana.

Dave Matthews Band- I really got into them in high school, which also coincided with my tiring of playing electric guitar and getting back into acoustics. I know a lot of people think DMB is just some frat boy stoner band, but there is no doubting their absolute musical talent.

For me, its either the White Stripes or Rage Against the Machine.

My RATM memory is having Evil Empire in the cd player in my first car (an '89 Chevy Blazer) for an entire Summer, just driving around rocking out.
